The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience matching and developing colors for metal finishing, coatings, paint, powder coating, or a related industry . We are looking for someone who understands color theory and the color wheel and can match colors not only with computerized equipment, but also manually by eye and through hands-on formulation and adjustment . The right candidate will be able to take a customer's physical color sample or finished metal part, identify the differences in color, and determine how to adjust the formulation to reproduce the desired color as accurately as possible. Key Responsibilities Match customer colors using physical samples, finished parts, color standards and production samples. Perform manual color matching and color adjustments using pigments, toners, tints and other colorants. Apply strong knowledge of the color wheel and color theory to develop and correct colors. Identify color differences in hue, shade, value, saturation/chroma and brightness . Use professional color-measuring equipment, including spectrophotometers/colorimeters , when appropriate. Interpret instrument readings and use them as a starting point for formulation and adjustment. Create test panels, spray-outs, drawdowns or other samples for color evaluation. Make manual adjustments when a computerized formula does not produce an accurate match. Match colors for metal substrates and metal-finishing applications . Work with solid, metallic, pearl, satin, matte and gloss finishes. Evaluate colors under appropriate lighting conditions. Maintain accurate color formulas and records for future production. Troubleshoot color inconsistencies between batches or production runs. Work closely with production and management to achieve customer color requirements. Maintain an organized color laboratory/work area and follow proper safety procedures. Required Qualifications Previous professional experience in color matching, color formulation or coatings . Hands-on experience working with metal finishing, powder coating, industrial coatings, automotive coatings or a similar field . Strong understanding of color theory and the color wheel . Ability to evaluate and adjust colors by eye . Experience combining and adjusting pigments, toners or colorants. Experience using a spectrophotometer, colorimeter or similar color-measuring equipment . Ability to troubleshoot a color that is close but not exact and determine how to correct it. Strong attention to detail. Ability to consistently reproduce colors once a formula has been established. We are looking for someone who can look at a customer's sample and say, for example, "This needs to move slightly more yellow and red, reduce the black, and increase the saturation," and then know which colorants to adjust and how to achieve the correction . Computerized color-matching equipment is an important tool, but we need someone who understands the science and art of color matching and can make adjustments manually when necessary.
Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
