Summary of Responsibilities Will be responsible for the running metals melting equipment used in making nickel and cobalt-based alloy powders. This will include loading the furnace with raw materials, purging down with inert gas, power-up, and pouring the molten metal from a hydraulically positioned furnace. You will be responsible for the precise fixturing of atomization nozzle and gas delivery system. All work will be performed with safety in mind for yourself, coworkers and equipment at all times
To work within guidelines of the company rules and comply with MIOSHA standards
To maintain the equipment and work area in a clean and organized manner
Inspect furnaces and equipment to locate defects and wear
Operate controls to move or discharge metal workpieces from furnaces
Observe air and temperature gauges or metal color and fluidity to adjust controls to maintain required metal quality
Record production data, and maintain production logs
Weigh materials to be charged into furnaces, using scales
Drain, transfer or remove molten metal from furnaces and transport into other furnaces.
Draw smelted metal samples from furnaces or kettles for analysis, and calculate types and amounts of materials needed to ensure that materials meet specifications
Remove impurities from the surface of molten metal, using strainers and other tools
Add chemicals to molten metal to bring impurities to the surface
Direct work crews in the cleaning and repair of furnace walls and flooring
Scrape accumulations of metal oxides from floors, molds, and crucibles, and sift and store them for reclamation
Prepare material to load into furnaces, including castings and ingots
Observe operations of the furnaces to ensure that problems do not occur
Use of degasing equipment will be required
Use of fork truck will be needed Qualifications
Must be able to work in an environment subject to extreme heat
Prior experience operating furnaces and operation experience in a heavy manufacturing environment desired
Able to read, write, and speak English without the aid of a translator
Ability to compute percentages, proportions, perform basic mathematics calculations
Ability to enter information about production runs in a computer
Will maintain a neat and organized work area
On-site attendance is essential function of this position
Working with safety in mind at all times
Past experience in SPC and quality systems is a plus
The ability to trouble shoot equipment or quality problems as they arise
Basic mechanical skills and use of hand tools is required
Must be able to understand written instructions Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with preferred minimum experience of 1.5 years.
Ability to read, write and understand the English language in both written and verbal forms.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to lift up to 45 pounds frequently during set up activity.
Past experience in foundry environment is desired Work Environment

Must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with team members of all departments, management, customers and suppliers
