Job Overview We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Sandblaster / Abrasive Blasting Technician to prepare metal and other hard-composition surfaces for painting, coating, and finishing. This position is responsible for using abrasive blasting equipment to remove scale, grease, tar, rust, dirt, and other contaminants while achieving the specified surface finish. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, quality-focused, and committed to meeting production goals while following all safety procedures and PPE requirements. This position will also have the opportunity to cross-train and provide support to the Paint Department as needed. Key Responsibilities Abrasively blast metal and other hard-composition surfaces to remove: scale, grease, tar, rust, dirt & other surface contaminants Prepare surfaces to achieve the specified finish and quality requirements. Operate sandblasting equipment in designated blasting bays, chambers, booths, portable units, or approved open areas. Properly operate and monitor blasting equipment and controls. Select and use appropriate blasting techniques and equipment based on the material and required finish. Inspect blasted surfaces to ensure proper preparation and quality standards are met. Identify surface defects or areas requiring additional blasting and correct them as necessary. Maintain a clean and organized blasting work area. Properly use and maintain blasting equipment, tools, and PPE. Follow all company safety procedures, including requirements for respiratory protection and other applicable PPE. Meet established production goals while maintaining quality workmanship. Minimize blaster-related rework by completing work correctly the first time. Communicate quality concerns, equipment issues, or safety hazards to supervision. Cross-train in the Paint Department and provide support as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in sandblasting, abrasive blasting, surface preparation, industrial painting, or a related manufacturing environment preferred. Ability to operate sandblasting equipment safely and effectively. Ability to manually abrade and prepare metal and hard-composition surfaces. Knowledge of proper surface preparation techniques and finish requirements. Ability to work safely around industrial equipment, abrasive materials, dust, and coatings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to meet production goals while maintaining consistent workmanship. Ability to identify defects and correct surface preparation issues. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness and ability to cross-train and assist the Paint Department as needed.
