Food Manufacturing - Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing, and modifying all processing, packaging, and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A Maintenance Technician III is expected to perform all of the following essential job functions based on the business assignment (detailed): Responsible party in supporting the food safety culture of the company. Effectively communicate with production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provide and receive feedback and/or support through collection and analysis of information. Maintain equipment and perform mechanical tasks to keep equipment in optimal operational condition; Maintenance Technician III is expected to repair 80% of equipment without direction. Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot for the following: PLC Controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advanced circuits and grounding, interpret diagrams and test equipment. Read schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Support facility maintenance equipment, which includes the following: wastewater equipment, compressed air, refrigeration and building safety equipment. Must demonstrate an understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; daily work activities should support achieving those goals. Perform daily inspections, emergency repairs, and routine adjustments; follow periodic preventive maintenance schedule. Maintain organized documentation, inspection records, work orders, and passdowns. Serve as a resource to other departments to resolve mechanical issues and maintain production efficiencies. Provide support to Process Improvement (PI) projects and participate on safety teams. Responsible for actively supporting the other members of the employee's work team, including assisting with cross-training, new-hire/buddy assignments, and process support during breaks, meal periods, and other staff coverage as needed. Weld and fabricate; assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors Other duties as assigned within skill set. Required Skills / Abilities /
Qualifications:
Meet all of the required skills of a level 2 mechanic. Must possess proficient mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills (logic and control circuits) and emergency repair skills; ability to identify and repair problematic issues concerning all equipment and machinery, including finding innovative solutions to recurrent problems. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Must work effectively in a team setting. Must demonstrate ability to cross-train other mechanics as well as production personnel.
Proficiency with Microsoft computer programs:
Outlook, Word and Excel (ability to enter data into the system). Ability to demonstrate math skills as part of the daily activities such as fractions, decimals, percentages, and the metric system; efficient with ratios, metric system, and formulas. Ability to understand schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw conclusions. Familiarity with preventive and reliability-based maintenance. Strong organizational skills. Effective communication skills. Ability to use a multimeter and other measurement instruments. Knowledge of operations and ability to operate all production equipment; baggers, metal detectors, checkweighers, printers, conveyors, etc. Certified for operating a forklift.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Cross-train level 1 and 2 Mechanics Assign tasks to level 1 and 2 Mechanics within skill set. Oversee outside contractors in facility. Education and/or
Experience:
Minimum 2-5 years of experience with industrial, high-speed processing, packaging, weighing, filling, and inspection equipment OR minimum two years of technical training To perform this job successfully, an individual should have Medium computer skills. Bilingual (English & Spanish) a plus.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
