The Broiler Technician (Serviceman) is responsible for providing field service and technical support to contract broiler farms. This role ensures that growers follow company standards for animal welfare, bird health, housing conditions, biosecurity, and production efficiency. The technician routinely visits farms, evaluates flock performance, resolves issues, and acts as the main liaison between growers and the live production team.
Requirements:
Education
bachelor's degree in animal science/biology/agriculture or related field preferred. Experience
No prior poultry experience is required; however, a general knowledge of animal husbandry practices is preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid driver's license is required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a working, professional relationship with Contract producers Inspect farms for compliance of contractual grower agreements Follow the company's safety policies Adhere to strict biosecurity guidelines established by the company Maintain selected rodent programs Draws blood and collects tissue samples according to local, state and federal guidelines Dealing with poultry blood borne pathogens Monitors farm conditions and upholds all animal welfare practices Monitor bird health and communicates this with the Broiler Manager Work closely with management and service techs planning schedules Perform water and spray vaccinations Keep detailed flock records Must be flexible to sudden program changes resulting from weather, disaster, disease, etc. Understand and support best management practices Efficient in computer programs such as excel, word, etc. Legible writing skills Attending mandatory classroom training Maintain a company vehicle with scheduling needed maintenance Mathematical Skills, problem solving
must be able to perform basic math calculations, read graphs, sort data. Must be able to solve practical problems. Must be able to follow instruction, manage time wisely , be self-motivated and plan schedules. Communication Skills
must be able to communicate effectively in face to face as well as phone call situations. Must have the ability to effectively write routine reports. Physical Demands
Hands are regularly used to handle birds.
Candidate will walk, sit, reach, stretch, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. The environment being worked in will require a tolerance to dust, foul odors, hot and cold conditions, rainy and dry conditions. Must be able to tolerate inconsistent start and stop times, as well as perform postmortem examinations. Additional duties may be assigned.
