POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Service / Dietary Aide at Serenity Oaks IRF supports the daily operation of the food and nutrition services department by assisting with meal tray assembly, delivery, and retrieval, as well as kitchen cleaning, dishwashing, and dietary supply restocking. This role ensures that patients receive their meals accurately, promptly, and in accordance with individual dietary orders. The Dietary Aide is committed to patient dignity, food safety, and maintaining a clean and sanitary food service environment throughout each shift. 2.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assemble patient meal trays accurately per individual diet cards, therapeutic diet orders, and IDDSI texture specifications. Deliver meal trays to patient rooms at scheduled meal times; retrieve trays following meals. Assist patients with meal setup as needed; report patient food concerns or intake observations to the nurse or Registered Dietitian. Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and food service equipment using approved procedures. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the dishroom, serving areas, dining area, and kitchen as assigned. Restock tray line supplies, condiments, and food service items between meals. Assist with preparation of cold food items, salads, desserts and beverages as directed by the Cook or Food Service Director. Monitor and report refrigerator and freezer temperatures as directed; maintain temperature logs. Receive and stock food and supply deliveries under the direction of the Food Service Director. Comply with all HACCP food safety principles, hand hygiene, and PPE requirements. Participate in food safety training and annual competency education. Maintain patient confidentiality regarding dietary and health information encountered during meal service. 3.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required:

High school diploma or GED preferred; comparable experience considered.

Preferred:

ServSafe Food Handler certification.

Preferred:

Prior food service or dietary experience in a healthcare or institutional setting. 4.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:

ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred.

Required:

Must comply with Louisiana Department of Health food handler requirements. 5.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of food service, tray assembly, and therapeutic diet delivery. Understanding of HACCP food safety principles and personal hygiene requirements. Ability to accurately follow therapeutic diet cards and special diet instructions. Effective communication for reporting patient concerns to the dietary and nursing team. Commitment to patient dignity, privacy, and courteous meal service. Physical stamina for sustained activity throughout an assigned shift. 6.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent standing and walking in kitchen and patient areas throughout shift. Frequent lifting and carrying of trays, dishes, and supplies; up to 30 lbs. Exposure to heat, cold, cleaning chemicals, and wet surfaces; PPE required.
