POSITION- WROUGHT OPERATOR PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for set-up and operation of various types straightening and cutting machines, draw bench, centerless grinder, vertical ram press and auxiliary equipment to straighten, size and process wire and rod materials to specification.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives oral and/or written instructions from Supervisor or other lead personnel. Works under general supervision to carry out duties. May direct efforts of entry level personnel as required by supervisor. Performs operations in a safe and efficient manner and maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment in accordance with standard practice. Provides process quality control (visual inspection and/or use of hand held instruments to determine tolerances, smoothness of finished materials, etc.) and communicates results to Supervisor. Move materials as needed using cranes, hand trucks, forklifts, etc. Performs routine and preventative maintenance on equipment as needed. Assists other personnel with non-routine maintenance. Sets up and operates centerless grinder to grind and polish rods to size, improve surface quality. Manually feeds rods into machines, checks size and surface condition for conformity, tags and bundles rods and removes from machines. Determine best straightening application for material size, thickness, and shape. Records production data such as order number, alloy, start and stop time, weight, number of pieces, etc. onto standard form. Ability to get along with others. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or other lead personnel.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience High school graduate or GED preferred. 2-3 years previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred. Language, Math, Reasoning Ability Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Other Skills & Abilities Strong hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity; prior manufacturing experience highly desirable; ability to effectively communicate within a team environment; ability to cross train and effectively perform multiple functions within production manufacturing environment. Physical Demands & Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May be required to wear respirator while performing duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
