The Track Torch Burner is responsible for cutting and preparing steel plates and structural materials according to specifications using a track torch, oxy-fuel cutting equipment, and other hand tools. This position plays a critical role in supporting production operations by ensuring precise and efficient cutting while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Set up and operate track torch and other oxy-fuel cutting equipment to cut and bevel steel plates and structural materials with maximum efficiency. Perform machine setup and operation while maintaining equipment in a safe and productive manner. Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine cutting specifications and layout requirements. Utilize basic computer skills to print and update orders as needed. Measure, mark, and align steel materials prior to cutting to ensure accuracy and consistency. Review job specifications and requirements to determine necessary adjustments to meet customer expectations. Inspect materials before and after cutting to ensure they meet quality and dimensional standards. Maintain traceability of all plate material and parts produced. Utilize efficient scrap management practices to minimize waste. Operate forklifts and overhead cranes using magnets and chains to safely stage, move, load, and unload heavy materials to and from the cutting table. Use measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges to verify finished part dimensions. Maintain communication with the Foreman and collaborate with other shop personnel to ensure smooth workflow and minimize errors. Perform scheduled equipment maintenance in accordance with company procedures. Maintain all applicable departmental documentation in a neat, orderly, and organized manner. Participate in and comply with all company quality system requirements to meet production and quality goals. Ensure adherence to all housekeeping, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Identify and report any material defects, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards immediately. Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times. Perform other job duties as assigned, including part inspection, part conditioning, or any other work necessary to support production.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
