FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

To perform a variety of skilled work in the repair and installation of locks on lockers, doors, files, desks and cabinets; and to make keys.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Install, repair and change combinations on locks.
• Repair, replace, install and adjust door locks, cabinet locks and hardware, padlocks and other locking devices.
• Repair and adjust various types of door closures and holders; repair panic bars and other exit hardware.
• Maintain master and duplicate key files and records; prepare keys by duplication or from key code; key and re-key all types of locks and maintain keying records.
• Open and repair jammed and vandalized locks; respond to emergency situations as required.
• Train school personnel and administrators on repair techniques and use of key filing system.
• Analyze key schedules and blueprints to assist and ensure new construction projects are correct
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade of locksmith.
• Knowledge of the variety of locks available and the best use for each type of lock.
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.
• Ability to perform skilled work involving installing, repairing and replacing locks.
• Ability to use and maintain the tools, materials and equipment involved in locksmith work.
• Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum:

  High School diploma or GED

• Minimum:

  Two years of responsible locksmith experience

• Minimum:

  Valid NC State Driver License

• Minimum:

  Industry specific knowledge of: Sargent, Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Von Duprin, Adams Rite, Precision, Detex, LCN, American Padlocks, Securitron, Yale, Best, Trilogy Locks, Dor-O-Matic, Dorma, Monarch.

Desirable:

Specialized locksmith training and five years of responsible locksmith experience.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of a license by the NC Locksmith Licensing Board or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire.

Full-Time

• 12 Months
• Pay Grade LD, $3,422.
