Job Title:
Lathe Machinist Job Description This role involves setting up and operating manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts to exact specifications. You will interpret technical drawings, maintain tight tolerances, and ensure consistent quality while working safely in a busy machine shop environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders, and other machine shop tools to produce parts to specification. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences. Measure and inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify accuracy and quality. Calculate and adjust feed and speed rates appropriate to the material and tooling being used. Troubleshoot machine issues and adjust setups as needed to meet specifications and resolve production problems. Maintain consistent quality and tight tolerances across production runs. Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of machines and tooling to ensure reliable operation. Follow all shop safety protocols and consistently use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Work with both manual and CNC equipment as needed, based on shop demands and your skill level. Essential Skills Proficiency in setting up and operating manual lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders, and other machine shop tools. Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings and work orders accurately. Strong math and measurement skills, including accurate use of calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Working knowledge of appropriate feed and speed rates for different materials and tooling. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machine issues and adjust setups to meet specifications. High attention to detail with a focus on maintaining tight tolerances and consistent quality. Manual dexterity and precision when working with machine tools and small components. Physical stamina and comfort working long hours on your feet around heavy, noisy equipment. Adaptability and willingness to work with both manual and CNC equipment as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a machine shop environment with heavy machinery and sharp tools. Familiarity with OSHA and general shop safety protocols. Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to respond quickly to production issues. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
