We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Toolmaker to set up, program, and operate CNC vertical machining centers, lathes, and related equipment to produce precision parts and tooling. The ideal candidate will translate engineering drawings into accurate machined components, perform toolmaking and repair tasks, maintain quality standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Set up, program, and operate CNC vertical machining centers and CNC lathes to produce precision parts and tooling.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM data to determine machining operations, tolerances, and tooling requirements.
Perform CNC programming, including edits and offsets, and verify programs through dry-runs and first-article inspections.
Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices; set feeds, speeds, and tool offsets.
Operate surface and cylindrical grinders as required for finishing parts and maintaining tooling.
Fabricate, maintain, and repair jigs, fixtures, and tooling consistent with toolmaker responsibilities.
Perform dimensional inspection using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and CMMs; document inspection results and ensure parts meet quality standards.
Troubleshoot machining issues, optimize cycle times, and recommend process improvements to increase productivity and reduce scrap.
Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and participate in preventive maintenance of machines and equipment.
Collaborate with engineers, production teams, and quality inspectors to support production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications 2+ years of experience as a CNC machinist or toolmaker, or completion of an accredited machining/toolmaking apprenticeship.
Proficiency in CNC set-up and operation, including vertical machining centers and CNC lathes.
Experience with CNC programming (G-code, CAM software) and making program edits for production runs.
Hands-on experience with grinders (surface/cylindrical), tool and die practices, and general metalworking.
Strong blueprint reading skills and knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, and inspection methods.
Skilled with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators) and familiarity with CMMs a plus.
Ability to set up fixtures, align workpieces, and maintain tight tolerances in high-volume or prototype settings.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training in machining or toolmaking preferred.
Willingness to work required shifts, overtime, and occasional weekend work as production demands. Benefits Health and Dental Coverage
