Job Description

Orchid Orthopedic Solutions is seeking a CNC Machinist III to set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines producing precision orthopedic implants and instruments. In this advanced role, you will interpret complex blueprints, select tools and fixtures, write and edit CNC programs, and perform first-article and in-process inspections to tight tolerances. You will troubleshoot machining issues, optimize cycle times, and support continuous improvement and lean initiatives while maintaining strict quality and regulatory standards in a medical device manufacturing environment. Collaboration with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams is essential to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. Responsibilities Set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines to produce precision orthopedic components Interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to meet specifications Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs and select appropriate tools, fixtures, and offsets Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment Troubleshoot machining issues, nonconformances, and equipment alarms to maintain quality Optimize cycle times, tool life, and machining parameters to improve efficiency Maintain documentation in compliance with medical device quality and regulatory requirements Collaborate with engineering, quality, and maintenance on process improvements Follow safety, 5 S, and lean manufacturing practices on the production floor Train and mentor junior machinists on setups, operations, and best practices Required Skills CNC machine setup and operation CNC programming and program editing (G-code, CAM) Blueprint and GD&T interpretation Use of precision measurement tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers, gauges) Multi-axis (3-5 axis) milling and/or turning Fixture and tooling selection and optimization Troubleshooting machining and quality issues Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement Knowledge of ISO 13485 or similar quality systems Basic CAD/CAM software familiarity
