Job Title:

CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on operating, setting up, and performing light programming on CNC burn tables, presses, and cutting machines to produce high-quality metal components. You will work from blueprints and schematics, move steel materials using hoists, perform basic and preventive maintenance on equipment, and ensure products meet quality standards through precise measurement and inspection. Responsibilities Operate, set up, and perform light programming on CNC burn tables, presses, and cutting machines to meet production requirements. Interpret and follow blueprints and schematics daily to ensure products meet exact specifications. Move steel sheets and beams safely to and from machines using hoists and other approved material-handling equipment. Perform basic maintenance and preventative maintenance on machines as needed to keep equipment in optimal working condition. Perform changeovers of tools and machine setups as required for different jobs and product runs. Conduct quality checks on finished products using various measuring tools to verify accuracy and compliance with specifications. Read and use a measuring tape and hand tools accurately throughout the workday. Lift materials and parts weighing up to 70 pounds as needed to support production activities. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with safety procedures and shop standards. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and address any issues with equipment or product quality promptly. Essential Skills At least 1 year of CNC operation experience, including programming of CNC machines. Proficiency in operating CNC equipment such as burn tables, presses, and cutting machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics accurately. Ability to read a tape measure accurately and apply precise measurements in daily tasks. Experience with machining processes, including working with lathes and mills. Capability to perform basic and preventive maintenance on CNC and related equipment. Skill in using various measuring tools for quality inspection. Comfort with using hoists and other material-handling equipment to move steel sheets and beams. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds safely as part of regular job duties. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with light CNC programming for different machine types. Experience in machining environments, including exposure to lathes, mills, and other machine tools. Familiarity with hand tools commonly used in metal fabrication and machining. Willingness to learn and expand skills, including potential cross-training in welding. Ability to adapt to changing production needs and perform tool changeovers efficiently. Work Environment This is a first-shift position, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Most overtime occurs at the start of the day, with typical overtime hours from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and most overtime is mandatory. You will work in an open-bay production environment with materials and products moving in and out throughout the day. Because the facility is affected by outdoor conditions, you should be comfortable working in both colder and warmer temperatures depending on the weather. The environment is industrial and production-focused, with regular use of CNC machines, hoists, and standard machining tool Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Billings, MT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
