  • 2nd Shift Position Overview Lead CNC Machinist for the 2nd shift responsible for supervising and executing precision machining operations, developing and optimizing CNC programs, and ensuring parts meet print and quality requirements.
This role combines handson machining and programming with team leadership to deliver safe, ontime production of highprecision components and continuous process improvements. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise 2nd shift machining operations, providing direction, coaching, and support to machinists and setup personnel. Develop, review, and optimize CNC programs (mill and/or lathe) using CAD/CAM software to meet print requirements and improve cycle efficiency. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machines to produce precision parts to tolerance, including first-piece setups and tooling selection. Perform and/or coordinate inprocess and final inspections using CMM to verify part conformance to drawings and GD&T requirements. Train and mentor machinists on best practices for setup, operation, and inspection, and conduct shift handovers to ensure continuity. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve nonconformances, implement corrective actions, and support rootcause analysis. Maintain accurate documentation including CNC programs, setup sheets, inspection records, and shift logs. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, improve throughput, and lower tooling and cycle costs. Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and company policies on the 2nd shift. Participate in tooling and equipment selection, preventive maintenance coordination, and qualification of new processes or fixtures. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of handson CNC machining experience with proven experience in programming and setup (mills and/or lathes). Demonstrated CNC Programming skills and ability to develop and optimize programs using CAM/CAD software. Strong machining background with experience selecting tooling, cutting parameters, and performing firstarticle setups. Proficient in CMM operation and interpretation of measurement data to ensure part conformance. Solid understanding of blueprints, GD&T, dimensional inspection, and quality assurance practices. Prior lead or supervisory experience, with strong communication, coaching, and problemsolving skills. Proficient with shop math, measuring instruments, and process documentation; comfortable working 2nd shift schedule. Experience with CAD/CAM systems (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX) and CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens) preferred.
Nicetohave:
handson experience with precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, vision systems, and other specialty calipers (user-provided term: Carnier Calipers).
