Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CMX Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team on the first shift. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating and programming the DMG Mori CMX series of machining centers. Your expertise in machining tools, blueprint interpretation, and CNC programming will ensure high-quality production standards are met efficiently. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining technology in a fast-paced environment dedicated to manufacturing excellence. Core Responsibilities A CMX machinist manages high-precision industrial metalworking and part fabrication through several specific tasks:
Machine Setup & Calibration:
Setting up dual precision vices, modular workholding fixtures, and aligning raw stock on the moving table or NC swiveling rotary table.
Control Unit Operation:
Navigating the
DMG MORI
SLIMline multi-touch control system (often running Siemens or Fanuc-based software) to manage real-time coordinates, monitor tool data, and perform 3D visual checks.
Tooling Management:
Loading and configuring rapid tool magazines (typically 30 to 60 pockets), monitoring powerful 12,000 RPM high-speed spindles, and handling through-spindle high-pressure coolant setups.
Part Programming:
Translating blueprints, CAD/CAM models, or utilizing conversational programming directly at the machine interface to set optimal feeds, speeds, and tool paths.
Automation Oversight:
In many high-production facilities, managing automated workpiece handling systems integrated with the machine, such as the WH 15 cell system. Duties Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines, ensuring proper machine setup and calibration for each job. Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software such as Mazatrol and SolidWorks to produce complex parts. Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to accurately produce components. Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision measurement instruments to verify part dimensions. Conduct machine troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and tool changes to optimize machining processes and minimize downtime. Ensure quality control by inspecting finished parts for adherence to specifications and conducting CNC quality inspections. Maintain detailed documentation of setups, measurements, and inspection results in compliance with manufacturing standards. Experience Proven experience operating CNC machining centers such as CNC lathe and CNC milling machines in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages including G-code, M-code, and familiarity with CAM software like Mazatrol or similar platforms. Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), and SolidWorks models for precise machining operations. Skilled in manual machining techniques using hand tools, grinders, lathes, mills, and other machining tools for setup or troubleshooting purposes. Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision instruments for quality control. Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of mechanical blueprint interpretation and metal machining processes. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and continuous improvement within the machining process. Join our team if you're passionate about precision manufacturing! We value your expertise in CNC programming, machine setup, measurement accuracy, and mechanical knowledge—all vital for delivering top-tier components that meet rigorous quality standards. This role is perfect for proactive individuals eager to contribute their skills in a collaborative environment focused on innovation and excellence.
