We are seeking a Swiss Lathe Machinist and setup expert to own complex setups, process development, and production support for tight-tolerance parts machined from difficult materials. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience with multi-axis Swiss-type CNC lathes, live tooling, sub-spindles, bar feeders, and aerospace-grade materials such as titanium, Inconel, stainless steels, and other nickel-based or hardened alloys. This role requires the ability to take a job from drawing and material through proven setup, first-article approval, and stable production. Our climate-controlled facility operates first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a full-time position paying $30.00-$40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Responsibilities

• Independently set up, prove out, and operate multi-axis Swiss-type CNC lathes with sliding headstocks, guide bushings, live tooling, sub-spindles, and bar-feeding systems.
• Develop and optimize machining processes for complex, tight-tolerance aerospace and defense components made from titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and other difficult-to-machine alloys.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, setup documentation, control plans, and customer requirements.
• Select and install tooling, guide bushings, collets, holders, workholding, and cutting parameters to control deflection, heat, chip formation, tool life, and surface finish.
• Perform program prove-outs, safe first-piece runs, offsets, tool changes, in-process adjustments, cycle-time improvements, and troubleshooting without compromising quality.
• Inspect first articles and production parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, pin and thread gages, optical comparators, height gages, and other precision metrology equipment.
• Document setups, tooling, offsets, inspection results, nonconformances, and job status accurately on travelers and required quality records.
• Mentor machinists, standardize best practices, and partner with programming, engineering, quality, and production teams on new-product introductions and continuous improvement. Requirements
• Minimum 10 years of precision CNC machining experience, including substantial hands-on Swiss lathe setup and production experience.
• Demonstrated expertise setting up complex Swiss jobs from scratch and bringing them to repeatable, production-ready status.
• Direct aerospace and/or defense manufacturing experience with tight tolerances, full traceability, controlled documentation, and rigorous quality requirements.
• Proven success in machining hard metals and heat-resistant alloys, including titanium, Inconel, stainless steels, hardened steels, and nickel-based alloys.
• Expert understanding of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, precision measurement, tool geometry, cutting conditions, and process capability.
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, solve problems methodically, and support a small-team production environment.

Knowledge / Skills

• Master-level knowledge of Swiss turning, cross drilling, milling, threading, grooving, part transfer, back working, and simultaneous multi-axis operations.
• Advanced knowledge of carbide selection, coatings, speeds and feeds, coolant strategy, chip control, tool-life management, and surface-finish control in hard metals.
• Ability to diagnose chatter, taper, runout, dimensional drift, poor chip evacuation, premature tool failure, and synchronization issues.
• Experience with first-article inspection and aerospace/defense quality systems; familiarity with AS9100 practices is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Citizen, Tsugami, Star, Tornos, or comparable Swiss platforms and controls is preferred.
• Strong shop math, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
