Modesto, CA Job Details Full-time $20.14 - $31.49 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications English Shop math Dimensional measurements Custom plastic extruder Full Job Description Job Summary You will run PVC extrusion lines producing PVC pipe, from startup through steady-state production and shutdown. We are hiring both experienced extrusion operators and motivated trainees with related manufacturing experience; experienced operators will help set up and start up new lines and train others. This is a long-term role in a growing plant. Duties Set up, operate, and monitor extrusion machines, including plastic extrusion equipment for PVC pipe production Conduct routine inspections of machinery such as press brake machines, CNC lathes, and robotic systems to ensure optimal performance Perform quality inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional measurements and adherence to specifications Troubleshoot mechanical issues and process deviations promptly, applying engineering troubleshooting skills to minimize downtime Handle materials safely using hand tools, forklifts, and materials handling equipment while maintaining a clean and organized workspace Adjust machine parameters based on process feedback to optimize product quality and production efficiency Document production data, quality measurements, and maintenance activities accurately in logs and reports Responsibilities Start up, run, adjust, and shut down single- and twin-screw PVC extrusion lines (extruder, die, calibration/vacuum tank, cooling tanks, haul-off, cutter, beller) Set and monitor process parameters: barrel and die temperatures, screw speed, melt pressure, line speed, vacuum, and cooling water Perform die and tooling changes and size changeovers with the maintenance team Check product to specification throughout the shift: outside diameter, wall thickness, ovality, length, surface finish, bell dimensions, and print legibility; record results on quality logs Perform in-line quality tests as required by

ASTM D1785, UL

651, and applicable product standards (e.g., impact, flattening, acetone immersion) and quarantine nonconforming product Feed and monitor material handling systems; verify correct compound is loaded and report shortages Keep the line and surrounding area clean and organized; grind or segregate scrap and regrind according to procedure Complete production reports, downtime logs, and material usage records accurately Communicate clearly with the incoming shift at handoff Assist with packaging, strapping, and staging of finished pipe bundles Follow all safety rules, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and hot-surface procedures; report hazards and near-misses Qualifications Experienced operator: 2+ years running plastic extrusion lines; PVC pipe or conduit experience strongly preferred; able to start up a line from cold and hold spec independently

Trainee:

1+ year in a manufacturing or industrial production role; mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn; prior experience with machine operation, quality checks, or measurement tools Able to read tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and pi tapes accurately Basic math and ability to read specifications and work instructions in English; Spanish-speaking candidates welcome, bilingual a plus Reliable attendance and ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, nights, and weekends Forklift experience a plus (certification provided) Physical requirements Stand and walk for the full shift; frequent bending, reaching, and climbing Lift and handle up to 50 lbs regularly, including pipe and material bags Work around hot equipment, moving machinery, and noise; PPE required Non-climate-controlled plant environment
