Job Description

Job Summary A machine shop in San Marcos, CA is hiring a Machine Operator 2nd Shift for a temp-to-hire opportunity supporting CNC and laser cutting operations for parts used in the electronics industry. This role is a great fit for someone with machine operation experience who wants to continue building skills in CNC machining, laser equipment, quality inspection, and production processes. This position offers hands-on training under the direction of supervisors and experienced machinists, making it a strong opportunity for candidates who are dependable, quick to learn, and interested in long-term growth. The work environment is team-oriented, quality-focused, and built around clear communication, steady production, and continuous skill development. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC-controlled machines, including lasers, mills, lathes, and related production equipment.
  • Load parts, operate machine controls, set offsets, make simple edits, deburr parts, and inspect finished work.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, manuals, and sample parts to confirm dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
  • Measure and mark workpieces according to production requirements and machining sequences.
  • Monitor machine performance, identify out-of-tolerance conditions, make basic adjustments, and report equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and perform basic preventative maintenance as needed. Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay:
    $19 to $22 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Entry-level range: $19 to $20 per hour.
  • Experienced and tenured range: $20 to $22 per hour.
  • Schedule:
    2nd shift, Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
  • Job type: Temp-to-hire. Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Operate CNC machines, laser cutting equipment, or other production machinery.
  • Inspect machined parts for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications.
  • Read drawings, specifications, and work instructions to support accurate production.
  • Communicate with supervisors, quality, production, engineering, and shop personnel to resolve production or quality issues.
  • 1+ years of machine operator experience preferred.
  • Experience with milling, CNC equipment, laser cutting equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to learn quickly and retain detailed production and machine operation information.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to keep equipment and work areas clean, safe, and organized.
  • Background check required upon hire. Preferred Qualifications
  • CNC machining experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience making simple machine edits, setting offsets, or supporting machine setup.
  • Familiarity with coding, programming, or marking programs.
  • Experience working with parts for electronics, precision components, or close-tolerance production.
