CP Furniture is seeking a Saw Mill Instructor for our non-profit construction and furniture training program. (CP Furniture is part of The Challenge Program (TCP), a construction training nonprofit that serves young adults facing barriers to employment.) The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and documentation of our Fallen Log Program. This role involves teaching participants how to safely and effectively operate a sawmill and kiln, as well as overseeing daily program operations. The instructor will operate and maintain equipment including a forklift, sawmill, and kiln; manage and organize wood inventory; and ensure a safe, orderly work environment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
To do this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned to meet business or instructional needs.
Implement a Fallen Log program curriculum in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) contract requirements
Prepare for and teach trainees daily on mill and kiln operations
Operate a forklift safely and efficiently
Operate and maintain Wood-Mizer sawmill, including replacing saw blades and performing maintenance as needed
Stack, sticker, and label milled lumber according to program standards
Load, unload, and operate a kiln
Fabricate and install water-diverting covers to milled logs
Maintain an organized and accurate wood inventory and stock system
Ensure safe work practices are followed for all operations and maintain overall workplace safety
Track and document trainee hours accurately
Document all contact with, and services provided to, active and exited trainees
Maintain reporting standards by keeping clear, well-organized electronic and physical records in compliance with DOL requirements

Qualifications:
Education and experience requirements
High School diploma (or GED)
Relevant work experience with youth preferred
At least 3 months of milling experience
Experience in implementing proper safety measures Knowledge, skills and abilities
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
A proactive, team-oriented mindset
Ability to work well with trainees and staff
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Must exercise solid boundaries and contribute positively to work environment
Ability to work well and build trusting relationships with young adults served by the program
Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Skilled in helping others sustain effort over time and provide positive reinforcement Work environment:

Hours:
Approximately 25 hours per week, with schedule to be discussed. All hours worked must fall within normal business hours.
Physical demands:
Ability to lift heavy loads (70 LBS)
Steady hands and feet needed for machinery operation
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
