Machine Operator Assistant Job Description The Machine Operator Assistant supports manufacturing operations by loading and unloading materials, assisting with machine operation, and performing routine maintenance and quality checks. This role helps resolve production issues promptly, contributes ideas to improve plant efficiency, and ensures equipment readings and procedures are accurately logged and recorded. Responsibilities Load and unload equipment and materials safely and efficiently. Assist with operating manufacturing machinery and general production tasks. Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines and related equipment. Log and record equipment readings, production data, and procedures with accuracy. Inspect output for quality, consistency, and defects, and take appropriate corrective action. Package materials according to established procedures and quality standards. Identify and resolve basic production and equipment issues promptly. Provide innovative suggestions to improve plant efficiency and workflow. Use hand tools such as scissors, razors, wrenches, and screwdrivers as part of daily tasks. Collaborate with team members and support cross-training across different production areas. Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with shop and clean-room standards. Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures in a fast-paced environment. Essential Skills Familiarity with basic tools and equipment, including scissors, razors, wrenches, and screwdrivers. Ability to handle a physical workload, including standing for extended periods and moving materials. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues on the production floor. Positive attitude and willingness to learn and cross-train in different areas. Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration and communication skills. Dependable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility and follow-through. Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and around machinery. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in or prior experience in machine operating, general production, or manufacturing processes. Experience with plastic extrusion or plastic film manufacturing is highly beneficial. Experience in other hands-on, fast-paced roles (such as food preparation or similar environments) can translate well to this position. Strong soft skills, including courtesy, initiative, and a willingness to take on new tasks. Openness to cross-training in different departments and learning new equipment. Multiple shifts are available, including: at one site, 1st Shift from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM (initial requirement for all employees to train on 1st shift for typically 35 weeks), 2nd Shift from 1:30 PM to 11:00 PM with a four-day work week, and 3rd Shift from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM; at another site, 1st Shift from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 2nd Shift from 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and 3rd Shift from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM with a four-day work week. Voluntary Friday work is available, offering additional flexibility and earning potential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Kingstown, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
