SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Man is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day assembly, quality inspection, and packaging of steel parts and fabricated products. Working under the direction of the Supervisor or Plant Manager, the Lead Man provides hands-on leadership to production employees and helps ensure that products are assembled correctly, meet quality requirements, and are properly packaged and prepared for shipment to customers. The Lead Man serves as a key link between production employees and management and is expected to lead by example, maintain a safe and organized work area, and ensure production activities are completed efficiently and according to company standards.
- Lead and coordinate employees involved in the assembly and finishing of steel parts and fabricated products.
- Review work orders, drawings, specifications, and production instructions to ensure products are assembled correctly.
- Assign daily tasks and help organize workflow based on production priorities established by the Supervisor or Manager.
- Perform and/or oversee quality checks throughout the assembly process.
- Quality- Verify dimensions, fit, appearance, welds, hardware, and other requirements as specified by company procedures or customer requirements.
- Identify defective, damaged, or improperly assembled parts and ensure they are corrected before moving to the next stage of production.
- Ensure completed products are properly labeled, counted, packaged, and prepared for shipment.
- Inspect packaging materials and methods to help prevent damage during handling and transportation.
- Maintain accurate production, inspection, and packaging records as required.
- Communicate production problems, quality issues, material shortages, equipment problems, and other concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.
- Assist with training and directing employees on proper assembly, quality, safety, and packaging procedures.
- Monitor employee work practices and encourage compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production area.
- Assist with material handling and movement of parts using appropriate equipment and safe lifting practices.
- Help identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, workflow, and material usage.
- Ensure tools, fixtures, equipment, and workstations are properly maintained and used correctly.
- Stop production and notify the Supervisor or Manager when a significant quality, safety, or production issue is identified.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
- Availability to work as needed and including weekends as required. Expect a minimum of 8 - 10-hour workday, excluding lunch. Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements applicable to the job.
- Promote safe work practices among production employees.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions, injuries, equipment problems, and near-miss incidents promptly.
- Maintain clear and safe work areas.
- Properly operate or oversee the use of forklifts, hoists, cranes, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prefer High School Diploma or equivalent, previous experience in steel fabrication, metal manufacturing, assembly, or a similar industrial production environment. Must be physically able to perform work; 8-10 hour shifts, Standing on your feet for long periods of time Forklift Operation- will be trained OSHA-Compliant Forklift Certification.
- Experience reading basic shop drawings, work instructions, or production specifications preferred.
- Ability to recognize quality problems and understand basic dimensional requirements.
- Ability to lead employees and organize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, quality personnel, and shipping personnel.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to use common hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials as required by the position.
- Ability to work around steel products, fabrication equipment, noise, dust, and other normal manufacturing conditions.
