CNC Grinder

Job Description

SUMMARY Hands-on role setting up and operating universal CNC grinding machines to produce precision cutting tools to close tolerances. Frequent changeovers for small-batch, custom jobs—ideal for someone who enjoys variety and craftsmanship. Opportunity to maximize output by running multiple machines when cycle times allow, building speed and efficiency. Work with multi-axis CNC equipment and modern measurement tools while contributing to a lean, data-driven operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review daily work orders; verify counts, routing, part type, and sequence before starting.
Perform complete machine setups:
choose wheels, bushings, collets, and programs; input tool offsets and setup values; run first-article, inspect, adjust, and secure approval. Dress and form abrasive wheels using standard devices to maintain profile and finish quality. Set wheel spindle speeds, feeds, and travel stops; run in auto-cycle when appropriate while monitoring part quality. Operate more than one grinder when order size and cycle times make it feasible. Inspect in-process and finished tools using precision gauges; record and track results in the data collection system. Execute SPC checks on all assigned jobs and escalate issues promptly to minimize downtime. Maintain a clean, organized work area and perform other related tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in machine tool technology or 3-5 years of related experience (or an equivalent skills mix). Direct experience setting up and operating CNC grinders (ANCA); solid understanding of grinding principles. Comfortable reading shop drawings and written work instructions; strong shop math and trigonometry. Proficient with precision measuring and testing equipment for close-tolerance verification. Working knowledge of cutting tool design and multi-axis universal grinding practices. Computer-literate—able to load/edit programs and follow digital work instructions.
BENEFITS
Skill growth with multi-axis CNC grinding and frequent first-article setups—accelerate your machining expertise. Variety of custom, small-quantity work—keep your day engaging with new geometries and challenges. Impact and autonomy—own your setup, first-piece approval process, and productivity improvements. Cross-training and opportunity to run multiple machines—boost your efficiency and value. Clean, organized environment with standard SPC practices and digital data collection. Stable, full-time 1st-shift opportunity with career pathways in advanced tooling and process optimization.
