Job Description
Position Summary The Prosthetic/Orthotic Technician is responsible for the fabrication, adjustment, maintenance, and repair of custom prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices. This role works closely with certified clinicians to ensure all devices are built to exact specifications, meet quality standards, and support optimal patient outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesFabrication & Assembly Fabricate prosthetic sockets using thermoplastics, laminations, carbon fiber, and other materials. Construct and assemble orthotic devices (AFOs, KAFOs, spinal orthoses, etc.). Modify plaster casts per clinician specifications. Perform bench alignment and prepare components for final fitting. Device Maintenance & Repair Adjust, service, and repair prosthetic and orthotic devices. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the fabrication lab. Ensure timely completion of all fabrication and repair work. Quality & Compliance Follow established fabrication protocols, safety procedures, and infection‑control standards. Document work according to company and regulatory requirements. Maintain inventory of materials, tools, and components and notify management of supply needs. Collaboration Work closely with prosthetists, orthotists, and administrative staff to meet patient and clinic timelines. Participate in case discussions when needed to support fabrication planning. Skills & Qualifications Required Technical training in P&O fabrication Mechanical aptitude and strong hands‑on fabrication skills Experience with hand tools, power tools, vacuum systems, and lab equipment Ability to read and interpret work orders, measurements, and diagrams Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to multitask and manage workload in a fast‑paced clinical environment Preferred Prior experience in a prosthetic/orthotic lab Knowledge of materials such as thermoplastics, carbon fiber, resins, foams Basic understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50+ pounds Frequent standing, bending, and use of hand tools Safe operation of machinery and fabrication equipment Work Environment Fabrication lab setting with exposure to machinery, dust, noise, and chemicals Use of PPE required (gloves, masks, eye protection, etc.)
