Pay:
$18.00 - $28.00 per hour Job description: Job Summary We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Slitter Operator to operate and monitor a production line while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity. This position is responsible for meeting production goals, inspecting steel materials and finished products, completing production documentation, and safely operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment. The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, basic computer skills, and the ability to accurately use precision measuring equipment. Previous experience operating slitting or leveling equipment in a steel service center is strongly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate a slitter production line in accordance with standard operating procedures and guidelines. Consistently meet established production and quality goals. Inspect incoming materials and finished products for appearance, dimensional tolerances, weight, and piece count. Perform pre-process, in-process, and post-process quality inspections. Complete inspection records, production reports, and other required documentation. Follow all work order instructions and production specifications. Utilize the ERP system to access production information and generate tags. Report equipment malfunctions and operating issues to the immediate supervisor. Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment in limited-space areas. Perform daily forklift inspections and follow all equipment operating procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine and work area. Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and proper housekeeping procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform authorized lockout/tagout procedures to support maintenance during non-routine or major repairs. Assist with general housekeeping and other production-related duties. Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least one year of production operator experience preferred. Previous experience working in a steel service center strongly preferred. Experience operating a slitting machine preferred. Experience with leveling equipment is a plus. Knowledge of leveling theory preferred. Previous forklift experience preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to accurately use precision measuring equipment, including: Calipers Micrometers Tape measures Intermediate-level math skills. Strong mechanical aptitude. Basic to intermediate computer skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality. Ability to read and follow work orders, procedures, and production instructions. Ability to identify quality issues and take appropriate action. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills with coworkers, supervisors, and management. Ability to safely operate equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment. Work Environment The Slitter Operator works in an industrial steel service center environment around heavy machinery, steel products, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. The position requires a strong focus on safety, quality, accuracy, and productivity. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, quality-focused, safety-conscious, and experienced with steel processing equipment.
