Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic team as a Sawmill Operator and Skilled Lumber Laborer, where you will play a vital role in the efficient production of high-quality wood products. This position combines hands-on machine operation, precise measurement, and material handling to ensure smooth mill operations. You will be responsible for operating sawmill equipment, interpreting technical drawings, and maintaining safety standards while contributing to the manufacturing of premium lumber and millwork. Your expertise in woodworking machines, and construction-related skills will drive productivity and quality in our wood processing facility. Responsibilities Operate sawmill machinery including band saws, circular saws, and other woodworking machines to cut and shape wood materials accurately. Use precision measurement tools such as calipers and tape measures to ensure cuts meet specifications. Interpret technical drawings and blueprints for proper material sizing and machining processes. Handle wood materials safely using forklifts, material handling equipment, hand tools, and power tools to move raw logs and finished products efficiently. Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols in all aspects of production, including machine operation and material handling. Conduct routine maintenance on machinery, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and perform basic repairs to minimize downtime. Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines while maintaining high quality standards. Keep detailed records of production activities, safety inspections, and equipment maintenance logs. Experience Proven experience operating sawmill equipment or working in a lumber mill environment with a strong understanding of wood materials and machining processes. Skilled in using woodworking machines such as saws, planers, jointers with the ability to interpret technical drawings accurately. Familiarity with safety standards in manufacturing environments, including OSHA regulations related to woodworking and machine operation. Hands-on experience with material handling equipment like forklifts or pallet jacks is highly desirable. Knowledge of construction or carpentry practices that enhance understanding of wood properties and millwork applications. Ability to perform basic math calculations necessary for measuring and cutting wood components precisely. Competence in using hand tools, power tools, calipers, tape measures, and other measuring devices for quality control.
