Job Description

Moulder Operator /
Set-Up Premium Hardwood & Accoya Shop Austin, TX Pay:
$20.00 - $22.00 per hour, based on experience |
Job Type:
Full-time |
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, Day Shift About Comal Wood Products Comal Wood Products is part of the Travis Companies family — a 139-year-old Texas legacy of craftsmanship. We're one of a small handful of Accoya Approved Manufacturers in the country, producing premium custom wood products, cladding, paneling, and architectural assemblies for high-end residential builders, architects, and commercial projects across Texas and beyond. Our Austin facility is state-of-the-art, our team is growing, and the work we do is the kind you point to. The Role We're hiring a Moulder Operator to run our moulder and rip saw lines. You'll own setup, operation, and quality on every run — from reading the order and selecting tooling to producing finished profiles that meet spec the first time. This isn't a button-pushing job. We need someone who understands the craft: knife setup, feed speeds, grain orientation, tear-out diagnosis, and how to coax a clean profile out of figured stock without burning material. You'll be working with premium hardwoods and Accoya — not bottom-shelf stock — and quality is the standard, not a goal. What You'll Do Set up and operate the moulder — install and dial in knife heads, set feed speeds, and run trial pieces until the profile comes off clean Operate the rip saw to break down rough lumber into accurate, usable stock Read shop drawings and work orders to confirm dimensions, profiles, and material specs before each run Inspect output throughout the run — catch tear-out, snipe, dimensional issues, or finish defects before they leave the line Maintain tooling, knives, and equipment — sharpening schedules, daily cleaning, and basic troubleshooting Coordinate with the production team to keep material flowing and the schedule on track Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area What We're Looking For 3+ years of moulder experience — Weinig or equivalent (SCM, Leadermac, etc.) Strong rip saw operation experience — breaking down rough lumber to spec Solid knowledge of wood — species, grain, moisture, defect recognition Tooling fluency — knife setup, feed adjustments, and grinding/sharpening awareness Quality-first mindset — you catch issues at the machine, not at the jobsite Reliable and self-directed — shows up, takes ownership, communicates clearly Nice to Have Experience with Accoya or other premium engineered woods Background in custom architectural millwork or high-end residential wood products Bilingual English / Spanish Compensation & Benefits $20.00 - $22.00 per hour, based on experience Full-time, Monday - Friday, day shift Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Stable, growing company with deep Texas roots Premium materials and equipment — the work you do here is worth doing Why Comal Wood Products We've been building beautiful things in Texas since 1886.
Our values are simple:
Dependable. Caring. Accountable. We believe the people who work with their hands, their heads, and their hearts are artists — and we're dedicated to helping craftspeople use their God-given talents to build and create beautiful projects. If that resonates, we want to hear from you. Ready to apply? Click apply, send us your resume, and tell us a little about the kind of work you've run on the moulder.
