Flying Meatballs

Continuous Improvement Engineer

Job Description

Continuous Improvement Engineer Allá Grande Fine Foods, LLC | Easton, PA | Full-time, On-site About Us Allá Grande Fine Foods, LLC — makers of Flying Meatballs — is a growing food manufacturer based in Easton, Pennsylvania. We're a lean, hands-on operation where individual contributors have real ownership and their work has a direct, visible impact on the plant floor. This is a great fit for someone who wants to build something rather than manage a large team. About the Role We're looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive measurable productivity, efficiency, and cost improvements across our manufacturing operation. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you'll spend the majority of your time on the production floor — observing operations, running time studies, and building credibility with hourly and supervisory staff — then translate what you see into data-driven, sustainable process improvements. You'll operate with a high degree of independence in a lean organization, working across production, sanitation, maintenance, FSQA, and Finance while helping the plant maintain USDA FSIS, FDA, and food safety compliance every step of the way.
What You'll Do Process Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
conduct time studies, motion studies, and workflow analyses across all production lines to identify bottlenecks, waste, and safety or ergonomic hazards. apply Lean tools (5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, root cause analysis, A3 problem solving) to redesign processes, and lead cross-functional Kaizen events with production, sanitation, maintenance, and FSQA. develop standard work instructions, line balancing models, and capacity baselines, and track improvement results against them.
Productivity, Capacity & Labor Optimization:
build and maintain OEE, yield, throughput, and labor efficiency metrics by line and SKU; recommend optimal crew sizes and shift structures. identify capacity opportunities through process improvement before recommending capital investment, and support changeover reduction and run-length optimization.
Cost & Waste Reduction:
quantify opportunities to reduce labor, raw material, packaging, and utility costs; build ROI-backed business cases and present recommendations to the COO. partner with FSQA and Finance to track yield variance, giveaway, and rework by SKU, and support standard cost development.
Quality & Food Safety Support:
ensure every process change complies with USDA FSIS, FDA, HACCP, and SQF requirements, and support root cause analysis on quality non-conformances and complaints.
Safety Coordination:
serve as the on-site liaison for our contracted EHS consultant — flagging hazards, supporting safety walks and PPE checks, and escalating injuries or near-misses immediately.
Data & Reporting:
build operational dashboards and visual management tools (boards, KPI displays, run charts) covering OEE, downtime, changeover, labor, and waste. What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline. 2-5 years of progressive experience in continuous improvement, industrial engineering, or operations engineering within a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Lean tools and methodologies (5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, SMED, standard work); Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher strongly preferred. Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas); experience with Minitab, Power BI, or similar analytics tools a plus. Familiarity with time study techniques and work measurement standards (MOST, MTM). Working knowledge of USDA FSIS, FDA, HACCP, and SQF requirements, plus general awareness of OSHA general industry standards. Strong communication skills and floor presence, with the ability to influence hourly operators, supervisors, and senior leadership alike. A high degree of independence, ownership mentality, and bias toward action — you're comfortable being a single contributor without a large support team. Food and beverage manufacturing experience strongly preferred; direct experience in a USDA FSIS or FDA-regulated facility is a significant plus. Experience in a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing operation (under 100 employees) is preferred over large-corporate experience, given the breadth of this role. Work Environment & Physical Requirements This is an on-site position at our Easton, PA manufacturing facility — remote work is not available. Significant time on the production floor, including refrigerated zones (35-50°F, PPE provided) and ambient areas, balanced with time at a computer workstation for analysis and reporting. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods (up to 6 hours/day) and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Standard business hours with flexibility for early, late, or weekend presence as needed to observe operations across all shifts. Compliance with
GMP, PPE
(hairnets, beard nets, gloves, smocks, safety footwear), and food safety requirements at all times in production areas; strict no-jewelry policy.
