Agricultural Plant Operator Full-Time | Year-Round | $23.00-$27.00/hour + Overtime | T&R Soil Service Pay depending on experience and qualifications 100% company-paid health insurance for the employee 100% company-funded SEP retirement plan, with strong employer contributions Paid vacation/PTO Paid holidays T&R Soil Service is looking for dependable, capable individuals to join our team as Agricultural Plant Operators at our new fertilizer and crop protection facilities. This position combines computer-based automated plant operation with hands-on equipment operation. We are looking for people who are comfortable learning technology, understanding how automated systems work, working with data and order information, and also working directly with the equipment those systems control. Our new facilities include a bulk dry fertilizer receiving, blending, and loading plant and a bulk crop protection receiving, blending, and loading plant . Operators will be cross-trained to work in both facilities and will play an important role in helping us establish strong processes and operating standards from the beginning. This is more than a general labor or equipment operator position. The right person needs to be able to learn the complete operation, understand both the computer-controlled automation and the physical equipment , pay close attention to details, recognize when something isn't right, and take pride in keeping the operation running safely, accurately, and efficiently. The Role A primary responsibility of this position will be operating and monitoring the computer-based automation systems that control our fertilizer and crop protection receiving, blending, and loading operations. Operators will learn to use the plant control systems to manage product movement, execute customer orders and blend instructions, monitor equipment and system status, verify that automated processes are occurring correctly, and respond when the system or physical operation does not perform as expected. This requires more than simply pushing buttons. Operators need to understand what the automation is telling them, what should be happening in the plant, and whether the two match. At the same time, this remains a hands-on position. Operators will work directly with conveyors, pumps, valves, bins, tanks, loaders, forklifts, trucks, and other plant equipment. Responsibilities Include Operate computer-based fertilizer and crop protection automation, blending, and loadout systems Enter, select, review, and execute customer orders and blend instructions through the plant control system Monitor computer screens, system status, alarms, equipment feedback, and automated processes during operation Verify that the correct products, quantities, rates, and destinations are selected before starting automated processes Understand the relationship between what is shown on the control system and what is physically occurring in the plant Recognize abnormal readings, alarms, sequencing issues, equipment failures, or other situations requiring operator attention Troubleshoot basic automation, operational, and mechanical issues and know when additional assistance is needed Receive and unload incoming bulk fertilizer and crop protection products Produce accurate blends according to customer orders and product specifications Load products onto trucks and application equipment Verify products and quantities before receiving, blending, transferring, or loading Operate loaders, forklifts, skid steers, and other facility equipment Perform routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance Maintain accurate production, receiving, loading, and inventory records Assist with inventory accuracy and physical inventory Keep facilities, control areas, equipment, and loading areas clean and organized Follow safety, PPE, product-handling, and spill-prevention procedures Help prevent contamination, cross-contamination, spills, product loss, and loading errors More Than a Plant Position Plant operation will be the primary responsibility of this position, particularly during our busy fertilizer and crop protection seasons. Because agriculture is seasonal, this position will also extend beyond the plants when needed. During slower plant periods or peak demand elsewhere in the business, operators may assist with: Hauling fertilizer, crop protection products, or other agricultural products Moving equipment or products between locations Receiving and inventory Equipment and facility maintenance Operating agricultural or material-handling equipment Other agricultural operations as needed Our goal is to provide full-time, year-round employment while building a versatile team that can work together wherever they are needed most. What Success Looks Like Success in this position means: Customer orders are entered, processed, blended, and loaded accurately You become proficient and confident using the plant's computer and automation systems You understand both the automated process and the physical equipment it controls You recognize when computer information, equipment operation, or product movement does not look right and investigate before it becomes a larger problem Fertilizer and crop protection products are handled, blended, and loaded safely and accurately Equipment is monitored, maintained, and cared for Facilities and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe Product-handling procedures are followed and mistakes, spills, contamination, and product loss are prevented Production and inventory records are maintained accurately You become increasingly independent as you learn the systems and operation You communicate effectively when a problem, question, or unusual situation requires additional attention You are willing and able to step into other areas of the business when workload requires it Because these are new facilities, our operating processes will continue to develop as we begin using them. The people we hire will have an opportunity to learn the automation and equipment from the beginning and help us establish an operation that is safe, accurate, efficient, and well cared for. Who We're Looking For We're less concerned with finding someone who checks every box on a traditional plant operator job description and more interested in finding someone with the right combination of technical ability, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, dependability, good judgment, and willingness to learn.
The right person will:
Be comfortable working with computers, electronic controls, and automated operating systems Be able to learn new software and understand information presented through a computer-based control system Be comfortable working with numbers, quantities, product information, and customer orders where accuracy matters Understand that technology and automation are a major part of this position, not simply an occasional task Have mechanical aptitude and an interest in understanding how physical equipment works Be willing to troubleshoot both system-related and mechanical problems Pay close attention to details, especially when selecting, blending, transferring, and loading products Recognize when something doesn't seem right and investigate, communicate, or ask for help Be dependable and ready to work when our customers and team need them Take pride in doing things correctly and caring for equipment and facilities Work independently while also knowing when to communicate or involve others Work well with coworkers, drivers, customers, and vendors Adapt to changing priorities and seasonal workloads Be willing to work in both facilities and assist in other areas of the business as needed Be safety-minded and willing to follow established product-handling and operating procedures Experience in agriculture, fertilizer, crop protection, trucking, grain handling, manufacturing, automated production, industrial controls, equipment operation, maintenance, or a similar field would be valuable. Previous fertilizer or crop protection experience is helpful but not required. We don't expect every candidate to bring experience in every area. We are looking for intelligent, capable people who can learn both the technology and equipment and become dependable members of our team. CDL Requirement A Class A CDL is required or must be obtained within the company's required timeframe after hire. Operators may assist with hauling products, moving equipment, and other areas of the business as seasonal workload requires. Applicants must be able to maintain a satisfactory driving record and meet applicable DOT requirements. Additional endorsements may be required depending on job responsibilities. Work Environment & Schedule This is a full-time, year-round position based at T&R Soil Service's fertilizer and crop protection facilities. The position includes a combination of computer/control-room work and hands-on plant operation , along with indoor and outdoor work around agricultural products, dust, machinery, conveyors, pumps, trucks, and other industrial equipment. Applicants must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, bending and reaching, and lifting and carrying approximately 50 pounds. Agriculture is seasonal, so working hours will vary throughout the year. Additional hours, evenings, and occasional weekends will be required during busy periods. Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. While overtime varies with weather and seasonal demand, approximately 200-300 hours of overtime per year is not uncommon. At the advertised hourly wage range, this provides the potential for approximately $55,000-$68,000 in annual gross wages , depending on starting wage and actual overtime worked. Overtime is not guaranteed and varies based on seasonal and business needs. Compensation & Benefits $23.00-$27.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications T&R Soil Service offers a strong compensation and benefits package, including: 100% company-paid health insurance for the employee 100% company-funded SEP retirement plan with strong employer contributions Overtime paid at time-and-a-half Full-time, year-round employment Training on new automated fertilizer and crop protection systems Modern, newly constructed facilities and equipment As an operator becomes more proficient in both facilities, develops stronger automation, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills, obtains additional qualifications, and demonstrates the ability to operate independently, compensation and responsibility may increase accordingly. About the Opportunity We're building these facilities to expand what T&R Soil Service can offer our customers and improve the efficiency, accuracy, and capacity of our fertilizer and crop protection operations. For the right person, this is an opportunity to come into brand-new, highly automated facilities , learn the systems and equipment from the beginning, and become an important part of how these operations run day to day. We're looking for people who want to understand the entire operation, not just one part of it. That means understanding the computer system, the automation, the equipment, the products, and how they all work together. If you are comfortable with technology, mechanically inclined, dependable, willing to learn, and take pride in doing things correctly, we encourage you to apply.
