NUCLEAR WEAPONS EFFECTS TECHNICIAN C - SVAD DEPARTMENT

Job Description

Position Description:
Join our dynamic team as a Nuclear Weapons Effects Technician C within the SVAD Department. The selected candidate will apply technical knowledge of electronic principles to diagnose equipment malfunctions and utilize technical skills to restore equipment to operational status. The position supports survivability testing of systems and components, including nuclear effects, electromagnetic environmental effects, and directed energy effects. Responsibilities include supporting test system setup and checkout; collecting, reducing, and analyzing test data; and assisting in the preparation of test reports. The selected candidate will also support component-level characterization testing and the setup of data acquisition systems used to collect data for survivability assessment programs. Additional responsibilities include supporting radiated emissions testing and field mapping, as well as building and repairing fiber optic and coaxial cables. The position provides operational and maintenance support for test facility systems and equipment, including the Fast Burst Reactor, Gamma Radiation Facility, Linear Accelerator, Relativistic Electron Beam Accelerator, Electromagnetic Pulse Facilities, Electromagnetic Radiation Facilities, and Electrostatic Discharge and Lightning Facilities. The incumbent receives technical guidance from the supervisor or higher-level technicians, and work is reviewed for compliance with established practices and procedures. Other duties may be assigned within the employee's capabilities. The selected candidate must maintain flexibility and availability to work day, evening, or night shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required to support mission and customer requirements.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Candidate must have demonstrated their ability to safely handle radioactive materials and must have a current Radioactive Materials Handler Certification and/or a Non-Ionizing Radiation Certification. Must have a working knowledge of characterization equipment as well as an understanding of nuclear environments, dosimetry, and semiconductor functions. Qualification requirements include graduation from a two-year resident course at a technical institution with two years progressive experience in the particular specialty field. Applicable Military, Department of Energy or Commercial Training will be considered based on duration and depth of training. A valid state driver's license is required, and employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. The selected candidate must also meet all eligibility requirements to work at the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) installation.
