POSITION SUMMARY
The Pre-Press Digital Print Lead is responsible for overseeing the technical preparation of customer-provided artwork, operating digital printing equipment, and supporting the daily activities and development of the Digital Print Department. This is a hands-on lead position requiring the ability to independently prepare and troubleshoot production files, operate digital printing equipment, and ensure customer artwork is accurately translated into finished products that meet established quality and production requirements. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of pre-press processes, color management, file construction, layers, textures, separations, and other elements that influence print output. Working primarily from customer-provided files and established specifications, this individual must be able to identify and resolve technical issues independently while preserving the integrity of approved designs. In addition to performing pre-press and printing duties, the Pre-Press Digital Print Lead serves as the primary point of contact and technical resource for the Print Department. This includes coordinating workflow, training and supporting team members, assisting with troubleshooting, monitoring work quality, and helping ensure the department operates safely, efficiently, and consistently. As the department expands, this position will play an important role in developing employee capabilities, standardizing processes, and maintaining production readiness. This is a production-focused technical leadership role, not a creative design position. The individual is expected to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and balance hands-on production responsibilities with day-to-day team leadership.
JOB DUTIES
Independently review, edit, and prepare customer-provided artwork for production, resolving issues involving color, layers, separations, textures, resolution, alignment, registration, bleed, and other technical requirements. Understand how file construction, color management, and print settings affect the final product, ensuring files are properly configured to achieve the intended appearance and meet production specifications. Set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot digital printing equipment, making appropriate adjustments to maintain print quality, consistency, and production efficiency. Inspect printed output, identify discrepancies, and work with Production and Quality personnel to resolve file, equipment, or process-related issues. Serve as the primary technical resource and point of contact for the Print Department, providing guidance on pre-press preparation, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and quality expectations. Train and support new and existing employees, assess training needs, and help maintain consistent work instructions and production practices. Coordinate daily workflow, prioritize jobs, communicate production needs, and escalate scheduling, quality, staffing, or equipment concerns to management as appropriate. Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues, recommending process improvements, and helping develop departmental procedures as the team grows. Perform routine equipment care and maintenance, maintain organized production files and records, and follow established quality and safety procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.
