Based in Union City, Georgia, we manufacture premium architectural woodwork, custom cabinetry, furniture, wall paneling, seating, shelving, molding, and specialty interior fixtures for commercial projects across the country. We are seeking an experienced Lead Finisher / Finisher who takes pride in producing high-quality finishes and understands the level of detail required for custom architectural millwork. Position Summary The Lead Finisher / Finisher is responsible for preparing, staining, painting, and finishing custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, furniture, and specialty wood products according to project specifications and quality standards. This is a hands-on shop position requiring strong knowledge of wood finishing techniques, coatings, color matching, surface preparation, and spray equipment. The right candidate will be able to consistently produce high-quality finishes while identifying and correcting imperfections before products move to final assembly, shipping, or installation. For experienced candidates, the Lead Finisher will also help coordinate finishing priorities, provide technical guidance to other team members, and ensure quality and consistency across the finishing department. Responsibilities Prepare wood, veneer, MDF, and other architectural surfaces for finishing through sanding, filling, cleaning, and related preparation Apply stains, paints, sealers, primers, lacquers, clear coats, and other finishes according to project requirements Operate spray guns, spray booths, and other finishing equipment safely and effectively Mix and prepare stains, paints, coatings, and finishing materials Perform color matching and make adjustments to achieve required samples and specifications Review shop drawings, finish schedules, samples, and project specifications to understand finishing requirements Inspect finished products for color consistency, coverage, sheen, surface quality, and overall appearance Identify and correct finish defects, imperfections, or quality issues before products move to the next stage of production Coordinate with Cabinetmakers, Engineering, Production, and other departments to maintain project schedules Maintain finishing equipment, spray areas, tools, and workspaces in a clean and organized condition Properly handle, store, and dispose of finishing materials in accordance with company safety procedures Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental requirements Assist with other production needs as required Lead Finisher Responsibilities Help coordinate daily workflow and priorities within the finishing department Provide technical guidance and support to Finishers and other production team members Monitor quality and consistency across finishing operations Troubleshoot complex finishing, color matching, and coating issues Help train and develop team members on finishing techniques, equipment, and quality standards Work closely with Production leadership to ensure finishing schedules align with overall project requirements Qualifications Previous professional experience in wood finishing, architectural millwork, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or a related environment Experience with stains, paints, lacquers, sealers, clear coats, and other wood finishing systems Experience operating professional spray equipment and working in a production finishing environment Strong understanding of surface preparation, sanding, coating application, and finishing techniques Color matching and custom finish development experience strongly preferred Ability to read and understand finish schedules, shop drawings, samples, and project specifications Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship Ability to identify finish defects and independently work toward practical solutions Ability to produce consistent, high-quality work while meeting production schedules Dependable attendance and willingness to work as part of a production team Leadership or team lead experience preferred for Lead Finisher candidates Ability to safely lift and move materials commonly used in architectural millwork production High school diploma or equivalent preferred Equal Employment Opportunity Mortensen Woodwork is an equal opportunity employer. Pay:
$26.00 - $30.00 per hour
