Welder Assembler Job Description This role combines precision welding and hands-on assembly work in a dynamic job shop environment. You will produce small to medium production runs of 10-50 parts per order, frequently switching to new products and custom projects. Most of your day will focus on TIG welding, with additional responsibilities in assembly, drilling and tapping, and quality inspection, all guided by detailed blueprints and welding prints. Responsibilities Perform welding for approximately 75% of the workday, focusing primarily on TIG welding with some MIG welding as needed. Assemble components and completed units for approximately 25% of the workday, including fitting, drilling, tapping, and basic fabrication tasks. Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints, layout specifications, and work instructions. Weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications. Work primarily with aluminum materials, with some projects involving stainless steel and carbon steel. Read and interpret detailed blueprints and welding prints, including welding symbols, to complete custom and production work accurately. Use jigs, welding torches, hand tools, and related equipment to assemble and weld parts safely and efficiently. Assist the team with product assembly, including the use of drills, taps, saws, and other shop tools. Drill and tap holes to precise measurements and specifications as part of the assembly and fabrication process. Operate grinding equipment and perform finishing work to ensure clean, accurate welds and properly finished parts. Use measuring tools such as tape measures and rulers to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications. Collaborate closely with other welders and the production team to meet deadlines, maintain quality standards, and support overall production goals. Perform basic quality inspections on welded and assembled parts to ensure they meet customer and internal standards. Follow all safety procedures and best practices when using welding equipment, overhead cranes, saws, and other shop tools. Essential Skills Proven experience with MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux welding processes. Ability to read and understand blueprints and detailed welding prints, including welding symbols. Demonstrated ability to assist with and perform mechanical assembly of products. Strong measuring skills, including accurate use of rulers and tape measures. Hands-on experience with MIG welding and TIG welding in a production or job shop environment. Capability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining weld quality. Experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel materials. Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpretation for fabrication and welding tasks. Experience using drills and taps to create threaded holes as part of assembly work. Ability to safely operate basic fabrication tools such as grinders, saws, and related shop equipment. Comfort using overhead cranes or material handling equipment in a shop environment. Attention to detail and commitment to quality in both welding and assembly tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Saw and cutting experience, including operating saws for cutting metal parts, is a plus. Experience working in a job shop environment with short production runs and frequent product changes. Background in fabrication, including fitting and grinding, is beneficial. Familiarity with using jigs, fixtures, and hand tools for precise assembly and welding. Ability to work effectively as part of a small welding and production team. Work Environment This is a first-shift position, typically working from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break and minimal overtime. You will work in a job shop environment that supports a distribution center serving the molding plastics industry, handling both small and larger parts for a wide range of customers. The facility maintains a steady workload with a variety of custom and catalog products, requiring flexibility and adaptability. You will work alongside two other welders and collaborate closely with the production team on assembly tasks. The shop uses MIG and TIG welding equipment, overhead cranes, drills, taps, saws, grinders, and standard hand tools. The environment is hands-on and industrial, where appropriate work attire suitable for welding and fabrication is expected, including adherence to safety gear requirements such as protective clothing, gloves, and eye protection. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chagrin Falls, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
