Production Manager About the Opportunity Our Richmond, Indiana manufacturing facility is growing, and we're looking for a hands-on Production Manager to lead day-to-day production and help build the team and processes needed to support that growth. This is a boots-on-the-ground leadership role . The right person will spend the majority of their time on the production floor—working directly with employees, managing priorities, monitoring production, solving problems, and making sure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The operation currently has approximately 20 production employees, with plans to add at least 20 more as the business continues to grow. With a significant volume of work and continued expansion ahead, this is an opportunity for an experienced production leader to bring structure, accountability, and consistency to a busy manufacturing environment while helping build and develop a larger production team. What You'll Be Doing Lead the day-to-day production operation with a strong, visible presence on the plant floor. Spend the majority of your time working directly with production employees, monitoring progress, answering questions, removing obstacles, and keeping work moving. Develop and manage daily and weekly production schedules to meet customer commitments and shipping deadlines. Monitor production throughout the day and proactively address bottlenecks, delays, staffing issues, equipment problems, and changing priorities. Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and production priorities to maximize workflow and on-time delivery. Assign work and provide clear direction to production employees based on the production schedule and business needs. Work closely with scheduling, quality, maintenance, engineering, and plant leadership to resolve production issues quickly and effectively. Maintain a strong sense of urgency around customer commitments and finished-product shipments. Track production performance and communicate progress, challenges, and resource needs to plant leadership. Keep the team on track and accountable for productivity, quality, attendance, safety, and following established processes. Coach, develop, and motivate production employees while building a positive, accountable, team-oriented culture. Play a key role in recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing new production employees as the team grows from approximately 20 employees to 40+. Help establish clear expectations, standard work, and operating procedures for a growing production organization. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce downtime, minimize waste, and improve production flow. Support continuous improvement efforts, including 5S, root-cause problem solving, and process improvement. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and disciplined production environment. Be willing to stay later when needed to support important customer shipments and work an occasional Saturday when production demands require it. Lead by example and demonstrate a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and commitment to the success of the team. Experience and Background Solid experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with progressive leadership responsibility. Demonstrated experience directly leading production employees in a manufacturing setting. Strong understanding of production scheduling, workflow, manpower planning, and meeting production deadlines. Experience in metal fabrication, stamping, or a similar manufacturing environment preferred. A proven ability to identify production problems, prioritize competing demands, and keep work moving. Strong people leadership skills, including the ability to coach employees, establish expectations, and hold people accountable. A hands-on leadership style and genuine willingness to spend the majority of the day on the production floor. Experience training, onboarding, and developing production employees; experience supporting significant team growth is a plus. Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels. Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, and root-cause problem solving. Comfortable using production metrics and data to monitor performance and make decisions.
