Job Description

The Plant Manager leads the daily operations of a food manufacturing facility. This role is accountable for employee safety, food safety, product quality, production performance, maintenance, staffing, and cost control. The Plant Manager develops department leaders, solves recurring problems, and builds a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Lead production, maintenance, quality, and sanitation teams to meet daily and long-term goals. Maintain a safe workplace through training, hazard correction, incident investigation, and consistent enforcement of safety practices. Ensure food safety and quality programs are followed, including GMPs, HACCP or preventive controls as applicable, allergen controls, sanitation, traceability, and corrective actions. Plan staffing, schedules, materials, and equipment capacity to meet customer orders and service targets. Track and improve safety, quality, output, labor efficiency, waste, downtime, and on-time delivery. Partner with maintenance to improve equipment reliability and execute preventive maintenance plans. Control plant expenses and inventory losses while meeting budget and productivity targets. Hire, coach, evaluate, and develop supervisors and department managers. Address performance issues promptly and fairly. Lead root-cause investigations and process improvements that prevent problems from recurring. Prepare the facility for customer, third-party, and regulatory inspections and audits. Communicate plant results, risks, and resource needs to senior leadership. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in operations, food science, engineering, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. At least 7 years of manufacturing leadership experience, including 3 years managing multiple departments or a plant. Food manufacturing experience and working knowledge of food safety systems, sanitation, and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated success improving safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance. Experience managing budgets, labor, inventory, and operational KPIs. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and employee development skills. Experience with Lean manufacturing, TPM, or other continuous improvement methods preferred. Experience in a union environment preferred, if applicable. Working Conditions This position requires regular time on the production floor, including refrigerated or frozen areas where applicable. The Plant Manager must be able to follow facility safety and hygiene requirements and respond to operational needs outside standard business hours.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
