Assistant Plant Manager

Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Plant Manager to help lead operations at our Crockett, Texas facility. This leadership role is responsible for supporting all aspects of plant operations, including production, safety, quality, maintenance coordination, employee development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader who thrives in a fast-paced production environment, values employee development, and is committed to achieving operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. In the absence of the Plant Manager, the Assistant Plant Manager will assume responsibility for overall facility operations. Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Lead by example and promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to supervisors and plant personnel. Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and employee development efforts. Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and succession planning. Foster positive employee relations and strong communication across departments. Production Operations Assist in directing daily manufacturing operations. Monitor production schedules, staffing, inventory, and equipment performance. Drive productivity improvements and operational efficiencies. Analyze KPI performance, including throughput, downtime, labor utilization, and waste reduction. Coordinate production priorities with maintenance, logistics, and management teams. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Conduct safety observations, audits, and workplace inspections. Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions. Support employee safety training programs and emergency preparedness initiatives. Quality & Operational Excellence Ensure finished products consistently meet customer specifications and quality standards. Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts. Promote a culture of quality ownership throughout the facility. Maintenance & Reliability Partner with maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime and reliability. Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Assist with equipment upgrades, repairs, and capital improvement projects. Financial Performance Help manage operating costs and support budget objectives. Monitor labor efficiency, material utilization, and maintenance expenditures. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve overall plant performance. Qualifications Required High school diploma or
GED. 5-10
years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience. 3+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong leadership, communication, and employee development skills. Understanding of manufacturing processes, operational metrics, and industrial safety practices. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management, Engineering, Business Management, Manufacturing Operations, or a related field. Experience managing supervisors and multiple departments. Experience in wood products, forestry products, sawmills, biomass, agricultural processing, or similar manufacturing operations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and plant management systems.
