Machine Shop Supervisor 1.0 Description A. Supervises and directs the activities of personnel. B. Facilitates Set-ups and operation of special purpose equipment, conventional (lathe and/or mill), and/or numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers for fabrication of metallic and nonmetallic parts that hold to the high quality machine standards required within the organization. C. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. D. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. E. Ability to calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. A F. Ability to train machine shop personnel to do the same. Interface with machines in G-code using Fanuc, Okuma, or Dynapath controllers. G. Must maintain a machine loading schedule. H. Must be able to schedule shop work according to job priorities and reevaluate daily. I. Responsible for second shift planning and scheduling. J. Attends job scheduling meetings, maintains current project status reports. K. Fixture planning and designing. L. Must work with personnel to maximize efficiency and product output. M. Maintain tooling supplies and order all required tooling. Responsible for keeping machinery in good working order and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule. N. This is a working supervisory position. O. Interviews and makes recommendations for hiring personnel. P. Conducts personnel performance appraisals. Q. Conducts training and cross training of personnel. R. Maintain a resource loading schedule. Schedule shop work according to job priorities and reevaluate daily. Responsible for second shift planning and scheduling. Assigns overtime to personnel as needed. S. Coordinate with company scheduler work flow process according to job schedule. T. Attends job scheduling meetings as required. U. Fixture planning and designing. Makes recommendations and institutes changes to improve production. V. Must work with personnel to maximize efficiency, optimize productivity and reducing costs. W. Maintain tooling supplies and order all required tooling for the shop. X. Responsible for keeping machinery in good working order and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule on shop equipment. Y. Conducts safety meetings bi-weekly or as needed. Z. Coordinate with company scheduler work flow process according to job schedule. AA. Must be a coach and motivator working towards a team atmosphere, focused on building the best team possible. BB. Sets a good working example for staff and maintains a positive attitude. CC. Manages resources according to the schedule and prioritizes jobs. DD. Works with other departments to improve product performance and reduce costs. EE. Must communicate well with supervisors/managers, keeping them updated on job status and keeps production focused to meet schedules. FF. Participates in pre and post job review process. GG. Sets personal goals that are clear, challenging and obtainable that will benefit the department and company. HH. Ability to change leadership style to fit employees. II. Supervisor is a safety role model, monitors employees, equipment, procedures, and teaches others safe work practices. JJ. Must take an active role in our planning and scheduling goals. Must be willing to do whatever it takes to get job done one time. KK. This is a working supervisory position. LL. Demonstrated leadership and personal discipline in performing all assigned tasks to ensure product quality and safe operation for all employees. Ability to operate all machine equipment. Must have the ability to problem solve with all issues. Must be a team player and establish a team environment. 2.0 Knowledge A. Full understanding of all processes, procedures and safety risks associated with the plant processing areas. B. Demonstrated leadership and personal discipline in performing all assigned tasks to ensure product quality and safe operation for all employees. Knowledge of products and understanding of QC analysis to recommend adjustments. Ability to operate all machine equipment. Must have the ability to problem solve with all issues. Must be a team player and establish a team environment. C. Knows each employee's capabilities and utilizes their skill sets to meet production needs. D. Has appropriate technical knowledge of the work being supervised. Must have the ability to train coworkers in areas needed and encourages them to advance their abilities and skills. E. Knowledge of products and understanding of QC analysis to recommend adjustments. F. Full understanding of all processes, procedures and safety risks associated with the plant processing areas. 3.0 Education and Experience A. High School Diploma or equivalent. B. Must have 10+ years machining experience. C. GeoPath programming experience required. D. Must have experience with setup and machining of large components.
