Automotive Manufacturing We are seeking an experienced Materials Group Leader to join an established automotive manufacturing operation in Tecumseh, MI. This position is responsible for leading materials, inventory, and warehouse activities to ensure efficient material flow, inventory accuracy, and continuous support of production requirements. The ideal candidate will have previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment and a strong background in materials, inventory, warehousing, or supply chain operations . Responsibilities Lead and supervise employees within the Materials department, providing direction, coaching, training, and performance feedback. Manage the materials planning function to support daily production requirements and ensure timely material flow throughout the facility. Oversee inventory management and control activities, maintaining inventory accuracy and compliance with established procedures. Manage daily warehouse operations, including material storage, movement, cycle counts, and inventory control. Ensure labor and resources are effectively utilized to support production and customer requirements. Assign daily work and manage staffing, overtime, and vacation schedules based on operational needs. Develop and implement standardized processes and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency within Materials and Warehouse operations. Work closely with Engineering on new packaging requirements, including container quantities, material handling considerations, and transportation costs. Monitor departmental performance and support continuous improvement projects. Prepare and monitor departmental budgets and capital requirements. Conduct performance and development reviews for direct reports and identify opportunities for employee development. Train new and existing employees on departmental processes, procedures, and expectations. Maintain positive employee relations and address workplace issues in a timely and professional manner. Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives throughout the department. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Identify workplace hazards, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training preferred. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in Materials, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, Warehouse Operations, or a related function preferred. Experience working in an automotive manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement. Knowledge of IATF 16949 and
ISO 14001
requirements preferred. Experience working in a union manufacturing environment and understanding union contract language preferred. Knowledge of barcode label printing and scanning technology. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and employee development skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong planning and organizational abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, suppliers, and customers. Strong conflict-management and teamwork skills. Customer-focused approach with a commitment to operational excellence. Safety & Continuous Improvement The Materials Group Leader is expected to promote a strong safety culture by ensuring employees have the appropriate training, tools, personal protective equipment, and procedures necessary to perform their jobs safely. This position will also actively support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, standardized work, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
