Shift Foreman Job Description Role Overview Under general direction, the Shift Foreman handles everyday supervisory tasks and coordinates plant personnel to keep operations running smoothly. Working alongside the production supervisor , this role ensures a steady flow of high-quality parts and assemblies, meeting customer requirements, engineering standards, management directions, and established plant procedures. Pay rate $30-$45 Shift 6 am-2pm
Coordinate, schedule, and assign personnel and resources to effectively meet shift targets provided by the production supervisor .
Quality Control:
Enforce and promote high standards for part and assembly production to maintain quality and customer satisfaction.
Policy & Team Support:
Help apply personnel policies and procedures, offering feedback and recommendations to management on employee relations. (Any policy deviations require explicit approval from the Manufacturing Manager.)
Safety & Housekeeping:
Maintain a safe, clean environment by following OSHA regulations and internal plant safety guidelines.
Communication:
Maintain clear, two-way communication between shift staff, management, and the production supervisor .
Shift Management:
Step up in the absence of higher management to take full responsibility for personnel, operations, and facility assets.
Supply Ordering:
Track shift inventory and submit purchase orders for essential supplies (e.g., molding releases, blades, gloves, color additives, and raw materials) directly to the production supervisor .
General Operations:
Follow and enforce all operational policies, take ownership of shift quality, and complete other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee all Production Department personnel on the assigned shift. Duties include directing daily work, assisting with hiring and training, tracking performance, handling complaints, and applying rewards or disciplinary actions according to company guidelines and applicable laws. Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or 3 to 6 months of related experience and/or training; or An equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
Essential Skills Communication:
Ability to read and follow safety rules, operating manuals, and procedures; write standard shift reports and routine emails; and speak clearly in front of groups.
Math:
Ability to handle practical calculations (percentages, proportions, basic math) and apply standard algebra or geometry concepts where needed on the shop floor.
Problem Solving:
Ability to troubleshoot operational issues with varying conditions and interpret instructions provided in written, verbal, visual, or schedule form. Physical Requirements Frequently required to talk and hear. Regularly standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing, or using hands to operate tools and controls. Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 lbs. Visual ability needed for close-up work, distance, color identification, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Work Environment Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and high noise levels typical of a manufacturing facility. Occasional exposure to heat, outdoor conditions, elevated work areas, or chemicals, following standard workplace safety practices.
