Your primary focus will be managing hourly staff, championing quality and safety standards, hitting output targets, and building a workplace culture rooted in ownership and ongoing process refinement. We need a practical leader who has a background in managing teams within sectors like steel, wood products, metals, paper, building materials, or similar heavy manufacturing environments. Core Duties Direct the daily workflow of the 2nd shift team to ensure that safety, quality, and production targets are met. Provide mentorship and guidance to hourly staff to help foster a more accountable and collaborative team environment. Uphold all safety protocols, including OSHA requirements, LOTO, and environmental regulations, to ensure a secure workplace. Facilitate team briefings, safety discussions, and operational updates at the start of every shift. Track essential metrics such as OEE, labor efficiency, scrap rates, and downtime to improve overall performance. Collaborate across departments like Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to boost throughput and reduce operational delays. Utilize Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies to identify and resolve production bottlenecks. Perform root cause investigations on production issues to help prevent future occurrences and improve reliability. Verify that all finished goods adhere to strict customer quality standards and internal benchmarks. Oversee shift staffing, including attendance tracking, overtime management, and scheduling. Document shift outcomes and report key performance data to plant management. Maintain a clean and organized facility by championing 5S standards across the production floor. Facilitate staff training and performance reviews to help grow the next generation of team leaders. Required Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity within a heavy industrial or manufacturing setting. Prior experience managing production teams of 20 or more staff members is highly desirable. Demonstrated dedication to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to OSHA standards. Background in heavy manufacturing sectors such as plastics, paper, metals, steel, chemical processing, or building materials. Practical understanding of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and other continuous improvement frameworks. Proven ability to use KPIs and production data to drive better operational results. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution abilities. Capability to manage competing priorities effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Competency with Microsoft Office tools and various production reporting software. A bachelor's degree is preferred, though we will consider candidates with equivalent leadership experience in manufacturing. Preferred Qualifications Six Sigma Green Belt certification or training. Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies. Previous involvement in Kaizen events. Expertise in conducting formal Root Cause Analysis. Experience in succession planning and professional development for employees. Familiarity with ISO quality systems or GMP standards.
