ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Assistant Roaster at FreeForm, you support the production roasting operation under the direction of our Lead Roaster. You will execute assigned roast batches against approved profiles, prep green coffee, help care for the roasting equipment, and support quality checks on every batch that leaves the roaster. This is a part-time role with flexible hours, and for the right person it can bridge the cafe and roastery sides of the company. You will train against FreeForm's documented procedures and work side by side with the Lead Roaster, learning a professional production roasting operation from the inside. This role is a great fit for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to build real roasting experience within a structured system of training and development.

Pay:
$20.00 per hour Guaranteed annual raises on the anniversary of your hire, for team members in good standing Free drinks any time (on shift or off) and staff discounts on coffee and merchandise Paid sick time and paid training Flexible scheduling and a clear, structured path into greater roasting responsibility
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Execute assigned production roast batches under the Lead Roaster's direction, against approved roast profiles Weigh out green coffee, load the roaster, and keep the roast schedule moving Sort quakers and defects from every finished batch and record post-roast weights Run color readings on finished batches and log every batch accurately Help with roaster warm-up, end-of-session cleaning, and scheduled maintenance Participate in cuppings and quality checks as you train Assist with green coffee receiving, inventory counts, and keeping storage areas clean and organized

you show up on time and follow through on your commitments Attention to detail and pride in doing precise work consistently Clear communication and a team-first attitude Comfort following documented procedures exactly; we run on written systems Ability to sustain standing work, repetitive physical tasks, and lifting up to 50 pounds Prior coffee, roasting, or production experience is helpful but not required; we will train the right person
GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
The Assistant Roaster role is a starting point, not a ceiling. Team members who demonstrate strong performance and operational knowledge have clear opportunities to advance toward Lead Roaster, cross-train into other Roastery Division roles, or expand into a full time role with additional benefits as production grows.
