Northeast Vehicle Services (NVS) is a premier provider of logistical support for the Boston area. We are seeking full-time Vehicle Handlers in our Spencer, MA location. This position is an essential part of the NVS team. In this position you will properly and safely unload vehicles off railcars for transport prep. This process includes opening sealed railcar doors, setting up and taking down bridge plates at railcar junctions, use of an adjustable loading ramp, and driving vehicles. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Comply with all industry, customer and company safety regulations and operating procedures
  • Pre-inspection of vehicles on railcar including management notification of findings.
  • Inspect/assist in opening and closing railcar end doors, assist in raising/lowering hinged railcar decks and inspect, install and remove bridge plates
  • Remove and properly store vehicle securement devices (unloading operation only)
  • Drive vehicles, at all times, in accordance with company and customer instructions/procedures, including to proper parking bay by assigned route for either railcar or truck shipment.
  • All other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license
  • Must be able to safely operate vehicles
  • Must be able to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends/holidays and being on call as needed
  • Must be able to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights in excess of 16 feet
  • Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to lift, load, push and pull equipment weighting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to pass a physical, pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.
  • Employment is conditional, based on a medical examination which includes a drug screen, and an examination to verify candidates can safely perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Requires a post-offer motor vehicle reference check, and background check. Employment and military (if applicable) verification required.
