This is a hands-on role in a UL-certified craft environment where you will work across multiple areas of the studio, from finishing to wiring, assembly, stands fabrication, ceramics and shipping. Where you spend your time on any given day depends on where the team needs you most. Quality is non-negotiable. You do not need prior experience in ceramics, lighting, or manufacturing. We will train you. What you do need is strong mechanical aptitude, comfort using hand tools, genuine attention to detail, reliability, and the kind of work ethic where you take pride in doing things right.

A word about our environment:

this is a working manufacturing studio, not a state-of-the-art art school facility. We are a small, scrappy team. Everyone cleans their own workspace. When something breaks, we figure out how to fix it. When we need a tool or a solution we don't have, we get creative and make do with what's available. The products we make are beautiful, and we take enormous pride in them, but the environment where we make them is practical, hands-on, and no-frills. Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch) Starting pay: From $19.00 per hour Pay increase upon successful completion of a 60-day introductory or probationary period On-site at our Warren, Rhode Island studio What You Will Do Stands Fabrication Fabricate and finish lighting stands and structural components to specification Work with hand tools, small machinery, and production equipment safely and efficiently Inspect finished stands for dimensional accuracy, fit, and finish quality Wiring and Assembly Assemble and wire ceramic lighting components following established quality standards in a UL-certified production environment Inspect wiring assemblies for functionality, consistency, and quality Pick and organize hardware parts for assembly orders Ensure every finished product meets our quality and safety standards before it moves to packaging Finish Sanding Perform fine sanding and surface preparation on ceramic and wood parts to ensure flawless finishes prior to glazing or priming Inspect for imperfections and ensure products meet quality standards before moving to the next stage Spraying and Stain Apply glaze, primer, stain, or finish coatings following established techniques and standards Maintain spray equipment and keep the finishing area clean and organized Inspect finished surfaces for even coverage, consistency, and quality Packaging and Shipping Prepare finished products for shipment with careful attention to protection, presentation, and accuracy Support on-time shipping to maintain delivery commitments to our designers and clients Ceramics Support ceramic production including slip casting, mold work, and kiln loading Handle greenware and bisqueware with care through each stage of production Inspect ceramic pieces for defects and consistency before they move to finishing Quality and Cross-Functional Support Inspect your own work for defects, accuracy, and consistency at every stage Follow production instructions precisely and report issues promptly Clean and maintain your workspace, tools, and shared areas daily Assist with additional production tasks and general studio work as needed, contributing to smooth workflow across the team Quality and Safety Hwang Bishop is a UL-certified manufacturer. Every product that leaves our studio must meet strict quality and safety standards. In this role, you will be trained on those standards and expected to uphold them consistently. You will inspect your own work for defects, accuracy, and consistency, follow production instructions precisely, and report issues promptly. Cutting corners is not part of our culture. The following are essential functions of the role: Stand and move around the studio for the full duration of each shift Lift, carry, and position materials and finished products weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance Use hands and arms repetitively for sanding, wiring, assembly, and finishing tasks Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach overhead as needed throughout the day Work in an environment with dust, fumes from glazes and finishes, and varying temperatures Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks, including but not limited to sanding, spraying, and finishing Operate hand tools, small machinery, and production equipment safely Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role. Experience Prior experience in fabrication, woodworking, or metalwork is highly valued Experience in manufacturing, electrical assembly, or any skilled trade is a plus Experience working with your hands in any capacity (automotive, construction, art) is welcomed No prior experience in ceramics, lighting, or manufacturing is required; we will train you Who you are You take pride in doing things right, even when no one is watching You are curious and willing to learn; you ask questions rather than guessing You are resourceful; when something isn't working, you troubleshoot before you escalate You work well as part of a small team where everyone depends on each other You are organized and clean up after yourself; a tidy workspace is a safe workspace You don't see any task as beneath you; if the floor needs sweeping, you sweep it You show up on time, every day, ready to work 60-Day Introductory or Probationary Period The first 60 days are a structured introductory period. During this time you will receive hands-on training across your assigned production areas. At the end of 60 days, your Studio Manager will conduct a formal review based on four benchmarks: Can you perform your assigned production tasks to quality standards independently? Are you demonstrating consistent accuracy and attention to detail across stations? Are you meeting quality checks and UL compliance standards? Are you reliable in attendance, punctuality, and team contribution? Successful completion of the introductory period results in a pay increase and transition to regular employment status.
