Job Description

Position Overview Logan Steel is seeking a hands-on Shop Safety, Quality & Training Coordinator to work directly on our manufacturing and warehouse floor. This is not a desk-only position. The successful candidate will be visible throughout the facility, working with employees and department supervisors to identify safety hazards, quality concerns, training needs, and opportunities to improve our operations. This position will work closely with Human Resources, department management, senior leadership, and our Safety Committee. Key Responsibilities Perform daily walkthroughs of manufacturing, warehouse, loading, and material-handling areas. Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe work practices before they result in an accident. Address immediate safety concerns and report significant issues to HR and management. Help ensure employees follow company safety policies, PPE requirements, and established procedures. Assist with OSHA-related compliance, incident and near-miss investigations, and corrective actions. Monitor machine guarding, lockout/tagout, forklift and crane safety, material handling, housekeeping, and PPE. Identify quality problems during production before defective work reaches the customer. Help verify employees are following drawings, work instructions, inspection requirements, and established procedures. Assist with documenting nonconforming work, rework, scrap, and recurring quality issues. Work with supervisors and employees to identify root causes of recurring safety or quality problems. Assist with new-hire shop orientation, safety training, refresher training, and employee sign-offs. Help develop practical training materials, checklists, SOPs, and training records. Coach employees on the floor in a professional and respectful manner and escalate recurring or serious concerns to HR and senior management. Experience & Qualifications Hands-on experience in manufacturing, steel fabrication, metalworking, warehousing, construction, industrial safety, quality control, or a similar environment. Working knowledge of OSHA/general industry safety, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, forklift or overhead crane safety is strongly preferred. Experience with manufacturing quality control, blueprint/drawing interpretation, measuring and inspection equipment, employee training, or root-cause/corrective-action processes is a plus. OSHA 10/30 or other safety certifications are preferred but not required for the right candidate. A college degree is not required; practical shop-floor experience, judgment, communication skills, and follow-through are highly valued. The Person We're Looking For You should be comfortable walking into a busy shop, recognizing when something doesn't look right, asking questions, coaching employees, and following an issue through until it is corrected. You must be able to work effectively with employees and supervisors without creating an adversarial 'safety police' environment. Help our people work safely, make quality products, follow consistent procedures, and go home safely every day. Logan Steel is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will be considered without regard to any status protected by applicable law. This posting describes the general nature and level of work associated with the position. Responsibilities and qualifications may change based on business and operational needs.
