Monday-Thursday with occasional evenings/weekends as project deadlines require Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to oversee quality assurance and quality control operations for shop fabrication and field erection across two locations. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for ensuring that fabrication, welding, erection, inspection, and documentation meet applicable customer, regulatory, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy steel fabrication and welding, along with a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification and NDT certifications. Experience with UT ShearWave is highly preferred. The successful candidate will be comfortable working both in the office and directly in shop and field environments, managing QC personnel, interacting with clients and third-party inspectors, and developing quality systems and documentation. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the company's overall Quality Assurance and Quality Control program for shop fabrication and field erection. Oversee QC activities across two locations and ensure project-specific quality requirements are consistently met. Develop, implement, and enforce QA/QC procedures, inspection standards, testing requirements, and quality systems. Ensure fabrication and erection processes comply with applicable AISC, ASME, API, DOT, customer, and other regulatory/industry requirements. Review new projects prior to fabrication to ensure QC personnel understand all requirements and that inspection and testing processes are in place. Assist with client inspections, third-party inspections, audits, and quality evaluations. Develop and maintain quality control manuals, QA procedures, inspection plans, test plans, audit plans, and operational systems. Develop field QA manuals and documentation in accordance with applicable API and customer requirements, including materials used as part of bid and project documentation. Establish methods for collecting and analyzing quality data to improve welding, fabrication, erection, and inspection processes. Develop and implement quality metrics to monitor process performance, product quality, readiness, and compliance. Conduct internal audits of fabrication, welding, erection, inspection, and documentation processes. Identify defects, nonconformances, and process deficiencies and develop corrective and preventive actions. Develop and improve welding and fabrication processes, practices, procedures, and guidelines. Coordinate testing and qualification of new equipment and ensure integration into existing fabrication and quality systems. Communicate inspection results, quality metrics, audit findings, corrective actions, and project status to project managers and executive leadership. Ensure QA/QC documentation remains current, accurate, and aligned with project and industry requirements. Manage, train, coach, and mentor QC personnel and junior quality staff. Conduct performance evaluations and participate in decisions regarding raises, bonuses, promotions, and disciplinary actions. Serve as a technical resource for welding, fabrication, inspection, and quality-related questions. Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Required Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required. NDT certification(s) required. UT ShearWave experience strongly preferred. Strong experience in heavy steel fabrication, welding, and/or field erection. Experience working with AISC and
ASME/API
standards. Experience managing or leading a QC/QA team. Strong understanding of welding inspection, fabrication processes, documentation, and quality systems. Ability to interpret project specifications, drawings, inspection requirements, and applicable codes and standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with customers, inspectors, engineers, project managers, and executive leadership. Ability to work effectively in both an office and industrial/shop environment. Valid passport and ability to travel for inspections, audits, training, consultations, and off-site evaluations. Preferred Experience Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable: Structural steel DOT bridge fabrication Railroad bridges Movable bridges Pressure vessels Large steel tanks Piping Ductwork and stacks Hoppers Heavy plate weldments Field erection
ASME/API
fabrication AISC-certified fabrication environments UT ShearWave and other NDT methods Work Environment & Travel This is a hands-on role requiring regular time in the fabrication shop and field, in addition to office responsibilities. The Quality Assurance Manager must be comfortable: Working around active fabrication and construction operations. Participating in shop and field inspections and audits. Attending client meetings, presentations, and third-party inspections. Working occasional evenings and weekends when required to meet project deadlines. Traveling for off-site inspections, evaluations, consultations, training, and audits. Maintaining a valid passport for required domestic and international travel.
Pay:
$43.00 - $53.00 per hour
