Steel Fabrication Quality Control Manager

Job Description

Job Details We are looking for a Quality Control Manager for our steel fabrication plant in Walton, KY. In this role, you will be the final word on quality, bridging the gap between engineering specifications and shop-floor execution. This is a high-impact position where you will lead a team of inspectors, manage rigorous certification programs, and serve as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team. You will be responsible for ensuring that every weld, coating, and dimension meets exacting standards while maintaining professional relationships with external owner engineers and state inspectors. Responsibilities:
Department Leadership:
Manage the overall quality function and supervise a team of QC Inspectors, providing training, performance appraisals, and technical guidance.
Certification Oversight:
Administer the AISC program and manage the welder certification program (PQRs and WPSs) to ensure full compliance with owner and industry requirements.
Inspection Management:
Oversee all internal and outsourced non-destructive testing (NDT), including Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic testing, and perform direct inspections of welds, dimensions, and coatings.
Liaison & Collaboration:
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory representatives and customer engineers, scheduling inspections and resolving technical concerns professionally.
Process Documentation:
Maintain the Quality Control Manual and ensure accurate project documentation and hold-point logs are filed in a timely manner.
Strategic Planning:
Participate as a member of the Plant Leadership Team to align quality standards with production schedules and continuous improvement goals.
Qualifications:
Certifications:
Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is required. NDT certifications such as UT or mag-particle certs preferred.
Experience:
10 years experience leading a quality control function involving welding in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, blueprints, shop drawings, and NDT methods.
Skills:
Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing techniques, strong computer skills, and excellent negotiation and time-management abilities.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
