Job Description

Job Summary The Director of Safety & Quality Assurance is responsible for leading company-wide safety, quality control, compliance, training, and continuous improvement programs. Safety is the primary focus of this position. The Director will lead safety initiatives, reduce operational risk, ensure compliance and support managers and employees in maintaining safe work practices. This role supports wet cast and dry cast concrete manufacturing operations, transportation operations, and our retail stores by reducing risk, monitoring product quality, and maintaining required documentation. The Director fosters a culture of accountability, safety, and quality while minimizing operational risk and supporting the Company's long-term strategic objectives. Role and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all company health and safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate monthly and quarterly safety committee meetings and ensure identified opportunities are investigated and resolved through corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, walkthroughs, and training to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions and behaviors; hold managers, supervisors, and employees accountable for safe work practices.
  • Complete monthly inspections of safety-critical items including exit signs, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, PPE compliance, machine guarding, and general housekeeping.
  • Create and maintain an annual schedule for Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), PPE hazard assessments, safety training, quality audits, and required compliance reviews for each department.
  • Maintain company safety calendar, training matrix, inspection logs, incident records, injury documentation, and corrective action records.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, safety incidents, property damage, product defects, customer complaints, and quality issues to determine root cause and prevent recurrence.
  • Work with Human Resources and management on workers compensation, insurance-related matters, return-to-work coordination, and safety-related employee follow-up.
  • Establish annual safety and quality goals, develop supporting action plans, monitor progress, and report results to management.
  • Coordinate, implement, and oversee health, safety, environmental, waste management, and regulatory compliance activities across company operations.
  • Maintain and audit quality control procedures for wet cast & dry cast concrete manufacturing operations.
  • Verify product compliance with company specifications, customer requirements, ASTM standards, and applicable industry requirements when applicable.
  • Oversee concrete and product testing activities, including slump or flow, air content, unit weight, temperature, moisture, aggregate gradation, density, absorption, dimensional inspections, and compressive strength testing.
  • Maintain laboratory procedures, testing schedules, calibration records, certificates of compliance, product traceability records, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate external training related to safety
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce injuries and near misses.
  • Support production, maintenance, sales, purchasing, and management teams with technical guidance related to safety.
  • Train qualified employees on crane safety, forklift safety and other equipment-specific programs as appropriate. Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Quality Management, Construction Management, Manufacturing, or a related field; equivalent progressively responsible experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction, manufacturing, concrete products, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of safety experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and manufacturing safety practices.
  • OSHA 10 Training Certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • OSHA 30 Training Certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Safety Professional coursework or other safety-related credentials preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret quality standards & safety regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to train employees and work effectively with managers, supervisors, vendors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing, laboratory, yard, and jobsite environments, including indoor and outdoor conditions, while wearing required PPE.
Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders as needed, and lift up to 50 pounds.
