Primarily In Person The Opportunity Byers Industrial Services is seeking a highly experienced Industrial Construction QA/QC Manager to lead quality assurance and quality control operations across our industrial construction projects. This position will initially support a large-scale data center construction project in Vineland, New Jersey , while also serving as a key QA/QC leadership resource for Byers Industrial Services as project and company needs evolve. The QA/QC Manager will oversee QA/QC Foremen, Inspectors, Technicians, and other assigned quality personnel supporting electrical, mechanical, and other applicable industrial construction scopes. This individual will be responsible for developing and managing the overall quality program, coordinating inspections and testing, maintaining quality documentation, managing deficiencies and non-conforming work, supporting commissioning and turnover, and continuously improving project quality processes. We place significant value on candidates who have progressed through the skilled trades, field supervision, or industrial construction operations . Hands-on electrical, mechanical, piping, welding, or related trade experience provides an exceptional foundation for understanding how work should be installed, inspected, tested, and turned over. However, direct skilled-trades experience is not an absolute requirement . We are equally interested in highly competent QA/QC professionals who have built their careers within construction quality, inspection, testing, commissioning, compliance, or quality management and can demonstrate the technical knowledge and leadership ability required to manage quality across complex industrial construction operations. This is a management-level position focused on owning and improving the overall quality program—not simply performing inspections or administering paperwork . Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the overall QA/QC program across industrial construction operations . Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Project Quality Management Plans aligned with contract requirements, project specifications, approved drawings, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, client expectations, and company quality standards. Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to QA/QC Foremen, Inspectors, Technicians, and other assigned quality personnel. Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) , inspection schedules, testing requirements, quality hold points, and acceptance criteria. Coordinate QA/QC activities across electrical, mechanical, equipment installation, piping, welding, and other applicable construction scopes. Review construction schedules and look-ahead plans to ensure QA/QC personnel and resources are aligned with upcoming work. Ensure required inspections occur before work is concealed, tested, energized, commissioned, or advanced to the next phase. Review contracts, specifications, drawings, submittals, manufacturer documentation, and other technical documents to identify project quality requirements. Coordinate inspections and testing with Project Management, Superintendents, Foremen, commissioning personnel, subcontractors, clients, engineers, vendors, and third-party inspectors. Conduct and coordinate quality audits to verify compliance with project requirements and established QA/QC procedures. Proactively identify quality risks before they result in rework, failed inspections, commissioning delays, client concerns, or schedule impacts . Lead quality meetings and participate in project planning and coordination meetings. Provide training, coaching, and guidance to QA/QC personnel and field leadership regarding quality requirements, inspection procedures, documentation standards, and best practices. Communicate significant quality concerns, trends, and project risks to Project Management and senior leadership. Multidisciplinary Construction Quality Oversight The QA/QC Manager will oversee quality operations across multiple industrial construction disciplines. Depending on project scope, this may include: Electrical power distribution Switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, VFDs, panels, and electrical equipment Conduit, raceway, cable tray, wire, cable, and electrical terminations Grounding and bonding Mechanical equipment installation Process and utility piping Equipment setting and alignment Supports, hangers, valves, and mechanical components Welding activities and associated documentation Pressure testing Equipment and system testing Manufacturer installation requirements Equipment startup and energization Commissioning System turnover and closeout The QA/QC Manager is not expected to personally serve as the technical inspector for every construction discipline . This individual must, however, possess the construction and quality knowledge necessary to lead qualified discipline-specific personnel, recognize quality risks, ask the right technical questions, evaluate findings and documentation, and hold teams accountable to project requirements. Inspection, Testing & Quality Control The QA/QC Manager will ensure inspections and testing are properly planned, scheduled, performed, documented, reviewed, and closed .
Responsibilities include:
Establish inspection points, witness points, and hold points as required. Coordinate inspection and testing requirements with active and upcoming construction. Ensure inspections are completed at the appropriate stage of installation. Review inspection and test results for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Coordinate required reinspection and retesting following corrective work. Ensure adequate QA/QC coverage for critical installations, testing, startup, energization, commissioning, and turnover. Monitor outstanding inspection and testing requirements through completion. Depending on the project and discipline, testing may include insulation resistance/Megger testing, continuity testing, grounding and bonding verification, torque verification, point-to-point verification, electrical equipment testing, pressure testing, equipment verification, manufacturer-required testing, and pre-commissioning/commissioning verification . Non-Conformance, Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement The QA/QC Manager will oversee the complete process for identifying, documenting, correcting, and preventing non-conforming work. Issue, review, and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) . Ensure deficiencies are clearly documented, communicated, assigned, and tracked through final resolution. Coordinate corrective actions with field supervision and Project Management. Verify corrective work is properly reinspected and documented before closure. Perform or facilitate root-cause analysis for significant or recurring quality issues. Develop and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) when appropriate. Analyze inspection results, NCRs, punch-list data, deficiencies, and testing results to identify recurring trends or systemic issues. Establish quality metrics and reporting processes to provide project leadership with visibility into quality performance. Evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions and implement process improvements when recurring concerns are identified. Promote an environment where quality is planned into the work rather than inspected into the work after completion . QA/QC Documentation & Reporting The QA/QC Manager will oversee the accuracy, organization, traceability, and completion of project quality records, including: Project Quality Management Plans Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) Inspection reports and checklists Testing records and reports Non-Conformance Reports Corrective and preventive action records Deficiency logs Punch lists Photographic documentation Material and equipment documentation Manufacturer documentation Certifications and test reports Welding documentation, when applicable Commissioning documentation Turnover packages Project closeout documentation The Manager will utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, construction management software, and applicable QA/QC systems to track inspections, testing, deficiencies, documentation, and overall quality performance.
