Job Description

Job Description Join Hilo Benioff Medical Center and be part of a team that proudly cares for our friends, family, and neighbors across East Hawaiʻi. The Credentialing Specialist IV serves as a subject-matter expert in healthcare provider credentialing and privileging for the East Hawaiʻi Region. This position independently manages complex credentialing and re-credentialing activities, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, supports Medical Staff leadership, and provides technical guidance to credentialing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage initial credentialing and re-credentialing processes for healthcare providers, including complex and high-risk credentialing files, temporary privileges, privilege modifications, and urgent requests. Conduct comprehensive reviews and analysis of provider qualifications, education, training, experience, competency, and other credentialing requirements; prepare credentialing materials for committee and governing board review. Ensure credentialing and privileging processes comply with The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), applicable state laws, Medical Staff Bylaws, and other regulatory requirements. Conduct audits of credentialing files, primary source verification, databases, and related documentation; monitor
OPPE/FPPE
activities and support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Serve as the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) administrator and support regulatory surveys, delegated credentialing audits, and other compliance activities. Provide technical leadership, training, mentoring, and guidance to credentialing staff while identifying opportunities to improve credentialing workflows, database utilization, reporting, and overall operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required. Equivalent progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical, or analytical experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, where applicable.
Experience:
At least 2½ years of professional experience working with credentialing standards and processes in a medical administration setting, hospital, clinic, or medical credentialing agency. Experience must demonstrate the ability to understand and apply credentialing regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws, and regulatory agency requirements. Familiarity with credentialing software is preferred.
Certification:
Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) certification through the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) is required at the time of appointment.

0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.
