This role involves operating and maintaining coating equipment, troubleshooting process issues, and working collaboratively with engineering and production teams to optimize coating performance. 1
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot vacuum coating equipment. Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning and masking, as necessary. Monitor and control process parameters to ensure consistent and high-quality coatings. Conduct inspections, testing, and quality assurance checks using tools such as microscopes, thickness gauges, and adhesion testers. Work closely with engineers to develop and improve coating processes and materials. Maintain a clean and organized work environment following safety and environmental regulations. Train, mentor & motivate junior technicians and assist in process documentation and training materials. Keep accurate records of coating processes, materials used, and any deviations from standard procedures. Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis for any coating defects or process inefficiencies. Assist with inbound and outbound shipments including packaging. 2
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's degree or technical certification in a relevant field is preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in coating application processes, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in various coating techniques such as thermal spray, powder coating, PVD, CVD, or wet spraying.
Knowledge:
Understanding of coating materials, surface preparation, and curing processes.
Tools & Equipment:
Experience working with coating application equipment, ovens, spray guns, and measurement devices. Attention to
Detail:
Strong ability to identify defects and ensure quality standards are met.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to diagnose and resolve process-related issues effectively.
Communication:
Good verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team collaboration. Ability to communicate effectively with production manager and engineering manager.
Safety Awareness:
Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations related to coatings and hazardous materials handling. 3
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in industrial coatings, NACE, or SSPC preferred. Certified to operate a high/low (Forklift) preferred. Experience with automated coating systems or robotics is a plus. Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles is beneficial. 4
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Requires standing for long periods and lifting materials up to 50 lbs. Exposure to chemicals, fumes, and heat in a controlled environment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and safety glasses.
Pay:
$28.00 - $32.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
