Summary of Position:
The Steel Receiving Material Handler has an important role on the manufacturing floor . Production processes depend on the Material Handler for the availability of raw material and containers, for the removal of scrap and finished parts, and for the die change procedure. Must have the ability to operate a hi-lo and overhead cranes Must understand lot control procedures making sure that all materials and containers are properly labeled or tagged. Maintain good housekeeping and safety practices while using good judgement in the use of space and machinery.
Goal:
is to be able to anticipate and prevent interruptions in production by avoiding shortages of material. Must have reliable transportation and have the ability to work overtime and weekends as needed. The position is based in Milan, MI. Responsibilities Practices safe driving skills with regard to the handling of a powered industrial truck and maintains a current powered industrial truck license. Inspects and prepares containers for use at workstations in the assigned zone. Load and Unload material from trucks, may require use of crane or entering a trailer with a hi-lo Loads and unloads metal coils with tare weights on de-coiling devices in the assigned zone using hi-lo or overhead crane. Bands partially used coils, re-label and returns them to the warehouse. Works with Materials group to balance out inventory variances. Use of PLEX for material transactions for inventory control. Maintains clean environment by removing bands, pallets, and other waste associated with raw material and disposing of it properly. Assists manufacturing supervisor in assessing material management procedures in order to determine the presence of bottlenecks or poor use of floor space. Demonstrates good judgement in the management of storage space by improving systems as needed. Performs scale procedures to weigh raw material or to count the number of finished parts as required. Maintains awareness of the location of parts and containers in order to assist other material handlers in the performance of their job.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required Ability to obtain an overhead crane license Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with production personnel and management. Basic computer and documentation skills. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods. Ability to lift and move materials as needed in a manufacturing environment. Ability to climb, squat, reach, twist and kneel. Good vision, good hearing and great manual dexterity are necessary. This position is essential to maintaining product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence by ensuring that all products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations and are delivered in a timely manner.
